Re: Virgin Media News
Deal in France could spearhead Virgin Media assault on Europe
Virgin Media is poised to be rolled out across Europe after talks between Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and overseas cable operators.
It is understood that Virgin Group is in discussions with Numéricable, France’s largest cable operator, covering nine million households, about a deal to rebrand its service under the Virgin Media name.
Similar licensing deals with the Virgin Media brand are expected to follow in other European markets.
The French talks, which mark the latest in a series of international expansion moves by the Virgin empire, come amid unhappiness among some Virgin Media investors about the forced abandonment of its planned $23 billion (£11.3 billion) sale.

It's Virgin Group though not VM there is a big difference and virgin group have deeper pockets than VM much deeper. Could be good news for VM though if the other companies rebrand under the same name

Nobody said Virgin Media did not have enough money to pay for the Sky channels, they said they were not worth the price being asked.
I have enough money to buy a tub of Flora margarine but I choose not too as the own-brand sunflower spread at half the cost is just as good.

Re: Virgin Media News
The BSkyB chief executive, James Murdoch, has received a cash payout of almost £4m following the achievement of operational targets over the last three years.
The £3.91m cash sum comes on top of the near-£3m remuneration package Mr Murdoch received for the year to the end of June.
Today's payout relates to the vesting of shares that Mr Murdoch received in August 2004 and November 2005 under BSkyB's Long Term Incentive Plan.

Re: Virgin Media News
Berkett eyes Virgin Media top job
Virgin Media's acting chief executive Neil Berkett has confirmed he is in the running for the top job and said he is treating his time in charge as if the post was his permanently.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Berkett said he wanted to appoint "a couple of new people" into senior roles in the coming months. He included his own former post of chief operating officer as one of these.
He was made acting chief executive last week following the surprise exit of Steve Burch, who said he was returning to the US for personal and family reasons.
City analysts had previously predicted that Virgin Media would find it difficult to replace Berkett due to uncertainty surrounding the company's future.

Inquiry delay into Sky's ITV stake
The UK Competition Commission has moved back the deadline for the completion of its inquiry into BSkyB's 17.9% stake in ITV until early 2008 because of the "complex" nature of the inquiry.
In a statement today, the Commission said the deadline had been extended from 7 November to 2 January because of the amount of work involved in "dealing with both competition and media public interest considerations".
The Commission will now deliver its report to the secretary of state for business enterprise and regulatory reform, John Huttonby, in "early December", although it has until the New Year to complete.
Provisional findings are expected in early October. The original timetable said this would occur before the end of September.

Re: Virgin Media News
Branson: Virgin still wants ITV
Sir Richard Branson has signalled that cable group Virgin Media has not abandoned its ambitious plans to buy ITV.
Sir Richard, Virgin Media's largest shareholder, also suggested his Virgin group would retain its 10.5% stake if the cable company is sold.
Speaking today from his home in Oxfordshire at the launch of Virgin 1 channel, Sir Richard was asked about recent takeover approaches from private equity groups and what a sale would mean for the Virgin Media brand.
