Can't change channels since new TV

I have recently brought a new Sharp TV, but have found an annoying problem with my NTL Samsung box.
When I first switch on the cable box and TV, I can not change channel on the cable box. In fact the remote control does not work at all on cable.
The buttons on the front of the cable box work though.

If I switch the TV off the cable box changes channel fine.
However, after about 30 minutes of them both being on, the cable box is then OK.
Any ideas?

Re: Can't change channels since new TV

Your tv is probably emitting infra red signals which is blocking the remotes own infra red signal when you the press buttons.
If your box is in front of the tv, try pushing it in line or slightly behind so it doesn't pick them up then try it again

I have tried putting the remote right up close to the cable box and it does not work.

Re: Can't change channels since new TV

Is it a Sharp Aqous? I think this was discussed before. If you have OPC switched on then it interferes with the signal from the remote.

Yes it is, and I do have OPC switched on! I guess the only way round this is to switch OPC off then? I will try it later when I get home.

ian81230 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Can't change channels since new TV

I had exactly the same problem with a Pace box and Sharp Aquos.
The answer I found was to turn the OPC off and turn the backlight down - conversely by turning it right up to 10, and then working down. I now have it set at about 7 or 8 and everything works perfectly. Any more and the remote stops.
Interestingly my Liteon HD recorder does not have a problem.
Moving the pace box had no effect at all.

Re: Can't change channels since new TV

I spoke to a Sharp Engineer today, and he said he had NTL Samsung box also, and he had to move it 2 feet from his LCD for it to work. Apparently the NTL Samsung boxes are not shielded from the LCD backlight, which is what stops the infra red receiver in the cable boxes from working.
