Re: Hd Tv

I actually bought the lesser known 32WL66, which doesn't have the tuner, but it's harder to find reviews for. It is exactly the same as 32WLT66, but no digital tuner.
32WL66 for £570, save £50 off the tuner model:

But with a integrated Freeview tuner, it makes your telly future-proof. If for some reason, you end up moving that telly to another room in the house (or you just want to stop paying for TV Channels), you can just plug the aerial in and carry on using it without having to buy a Freeview box.

Plus, if your Cable service screws up for whatever reason, at least you've still got some channels to watch.

Reasonable point - but need a new aerial, and Freeview is technically not available in this area (You can get it, but the channels disappear in the summer....)

I wish C4 and E4 would 'disappear' when Big Brother is on.

A friend who has Freeview loses ITV1 and C4 (at least) in the summer.
There is no BBC1 signal for freeview from the Sandy Heath transmitter, so it means having to watch the local news in another area.
You would think they would have the signals sorted out before they even started to think about switching analogue off.

Another quick question - is setting the TV up to the TV Drive for HDTV relatively simple?

Sort of. You have to have your TV Drive connected to the telly via SCART and your HDMI/Component lead. Then you tell the TV Drive to attempt outputting a picture via HDMI/Component.

Then you have to switch your telly over to the input channel for HDMI/Component - if you can see the picture the TV Drive is sending, you just press the TEXT button on your TV Drive remote to confirm, and that's it.

After that you can disconnect your SCART lead from the TV Drive and use it for something else.

The Engineers should set this up for you during the installation.

I'm doing this hopefully the other way around - getting the TV box and then the TV!

Re: Hd Tv

I also read somewhere that the HDMI doesn't switch over automatically as SCART does.
Just out of interest, suppose I have it all connected up through HDMI - then everything (HD channels and non-HD channels) comes through the HDMI connection?
Then I guess if I watch a DVD or something, and it switches to the Scart lead (AV1-2), I'd need to hit the applicable button on the remote each time?

No - that setup I described earlier only needs to be done once.

Re: Hd Tv

For the HDMI switching thing, well worth investing in a Logitech Harmony remote control - I have the basic model, select Watch DVD and the remote sends the necessary signals to the TV (to switch inputs - however many), DVD player (to switch it on) and AV amplifier (to switch inputs). Haven't yet worked out a way of getting the remote control to hover across the room, press EJECT on the player and put a disc in yet, mind
