Difference between Sky+ & NTL+??

I dont know if this is an easy question to answer or not & its probably been asked many times before. I have Sky+ which I am very happy with but want to change everything to NTL + (tv etc) - what is the difference between the 2? I love my sports - rewinding and recording etc - can ntl+ do exactly the same as Sky+???

Re: Difference between Sky+ & NTL+??

with the ntl tv drive you can record two channels while watching another as it has 4 tuners three for tv and one data (EPG)

It can also do high def tv E.G BBC HD and high def VOD

If you're expecting the software to be as nice as Sky+, you're in for a shock.

the NTL: TVdrive stb ( soon to be V+ ) has 3 tuners not 4, that will allow you to record 2 channels at the same time and watch a third,80 hours recording time in SD and 20 hours rec time oin HD, the stb is quite easy to use, and a new software is due to be launched quite soon that will replace the old one, search the forum as many posts are here for the software.

It will have 4 tuners. 1 will be used for the return path, the box talks with the CA system in Bromley/Langley/Knowsley.
Not sure if the box gets its EPG data in band (on one of the Multiplexes) or out of band on the return path connection.

Re: Difference between Sky+ & NTL+??

IM SORRY! BUT THE NTL TV DRIVE STB HAS 3 TUNERS! NOT 4!!

I also work for ntl and im sorry but the tech documents state 3! the return path dont need a seperate tuner! where are you seeing this info mate, cos its wrong! the next thing you'll be saying is that the stb has 2,3 or 4 inputs for the catv? just like sky+ has 2 inputs into 2 tuners lol

so would you say then that the existing stb has 2?? cos they all have return path capabilitys.

So if I understand you V+ will be HD, if so that's great, we've just bought a HD tv. When is V+ being released.

How much extra does it cost over a STD digital box. I'm really looking forward to going HD

£10 extra a month if you're on family pack. £15 extra a month if you're on a lower package.

Re: Difference between Sky+ & NTL+??

Yep it's capable of HD but at the minute it only has the BBC HD channel. Chris Howell wrote an excellent article on the TV Drive (V+HD) here.

I'm not sure but I think you can only get one V+HD box per household. I could be wrong though.

From Arthur The Hotspur,
I Think With All The Equipment Supplied By Ntl And Telewest Has Been Crap, But With Virgin Taking Over Next Month, I Think Heads Will Roll, And You Will See A Better Service, With All The Equipment, Virgin Has Always Been A Good Product

Re: Difference between Sky+ & NTL+??

Arthurgray50@blu: It will be the same equipment though even when they rebrand to Virgin Media...

Hom3r: I think it will be a long time before we see any Sky HD channels on V+HD.
