Re: Broken Set-top Box
Yeah why not? I mean you have no knowlege that the box was damaged by anyone during the course of your party do you? So the fact that it packed up at the same time must be just coincidence.
I would think the card is paired with the box and so wouldn't work. But hey! try it and see, can't hurt can it?

Re: Broken Set-top Box
You'll have to phone ntl and find out. If it's damage that was caused by you or your guests be prepared to pay.
Your card will not work on another STB, and to attempt to do so is a breach of the ntl terms and conditions.

Re: Broken Set-top Box
To get the service back, you will need to report a faulty box. NTL will charge you if there are any signs of physical damage to the box (either the outside or inside).
The boxes and cards are paired, so your card will not work in your friend's box.

NTL don't make a big thing of adverstising what security they have, so people assume that the box they have just bought off ebay will work, working on the assumption that the seller is entirely honest.

Re: Broken Set-top Box
Tampering with ntl equipment is against the terms & conditions. The boxes on ebay are illegal. I'm not sure how much ntl will charge for a replacement?

Re: Broken Set-top Box
Don't mention the party!
You were obviously cleaning/dusting, and it slipped .
Good luck.

Re: Broken Set-top Box
Cancel the contract but NTL will still want the money for a damaged box if it is shown that the box was broken and that it isn't a case of hardware failure. Odds are it died of natural causes but if one of your mates damaged it then it will cost to replace. House insurance cover it?

That's assuming you are outside your minimum contract period of course?

Re: Broken Set-top Box
Inside or outside his minimum period NTL will still look to recover the cost of damaged equipment. Like I said though, the odds are it died of natural causes but be prepared just in case.
I take it you checked the fuse for failure? Are there any obvious signs of damage (apart from a ham fisted attempt to open )
