Complete Rubbish
Well looks like i made the mistake of returning to NTL for my tv package,
Was with sky and for the last 2yrs not had a single issue
But only had the tv installed since half 11 this morning and its all gone pete tong,
picture freezes/pixles,turn the channel over and waitin 15-30 secs for the picture to come on if at all,box then just shows blank screen,re-boot it everytime.
its the new SAMSUNG BOX.
channels come up as un-subscribed and then the next minute come on.
Best part is,they carnt come out untill next monday, but i only rung them yesterday and whoosh there here to install today and the tecchy said only got 3 jobs today.
Well NTL doesnt dissapoint usual dross and one thing you can gurantee if you thought NTL were getting better then your wrong!!!!
Not happy at all.
Sorry folks rant over.

Re: Complete Rubbish
No it worked fine whilst the engineer was here,
Althought the 1st box wouldn't work right as there was no data being recieved from the card in the boxes when he put it on the test page.
Next box the info was there, and all worked ok
just gradually started to stutter/pixle'y then freeze then give up all together

Gets worse as the Samsung box warms up then? Is it well ventilated?

Re: Complete Rubbish
I had this when i first got ntl installed, it turned out to be too strong a signal and the tech had to return and he fitted something to the cable everything sweet ever since (apart from pap software!!)

simon9975, I don't want to sound picky, but why did you come back to ntl, don't get me wrong, I'm on the point of moving over to Sky because of the poor service, and crappy picture on TV.

Re: Complete Rubbish
Wonder if it's worth looking at the engineer's pages to see how the signal is?
Mind you, the engineer would have already done that I suppose.
I had loads of trouble when the Samsung was put in too. Engineers came out a couple times, fitted different attenuators etc (each engineer saying the previous one had fitted the wrong value attenuator!).
As I've said elsewhere, it's still a pretty moody and slow box.
No worse that the Pace 1000 & 4000 were though - you just learn to live with it.
I'd go back to Sky telling them you made a big mistake etc.

Basically came back as we were out of contract with sky, looked at what we were paying NTL and SKY and decided to go with one company.
The attuator i assume should be on the cable going to the set top box?
If so there isnt one, just the cable going straight in.
Looked on the technical page and in ORANGE it says POSSIBLE PROBLEM
Most of the other boxes are green???
But as much as i have complained on here about NTL i have to hand it to the guy i spoke to this morning,
Cut a long story short regarding the package as we were meant to be paying
£49.99 for the T/UNLIMITED,B/B 4MB/FAMILY PACK.
As a result of the installation,he credited the account with £28 for the days loss of service
and offered me everything above PLUS SKY SPORTS AND MOVIES for £39.00 PER MONTH
So as much as making a mistake they in my eyes have made a very good effort to keep the custom.
All i can say is well done NTL and hope the box gets sorted monday.

Yeah. It's like a little block with a coloured foil label on it.

There are engineers on here mate that will probably be able to give you a better idea.
Sounds to me as if the signal is too low there. Something I expect an attenuator would worsen.
If I understand it right (the engineer that last came explained it to me, but it was a while ago) - the levels are sent to the houses in your street.
If someone else joins, the levels may be ok (within parameters). But if say more than one join, the signal levels will start to drop as it's spread out, so need 'turning up'.
The attenuator comes into play when someone or more may disconnect and then the levels are too high.
I'm certain this is a very simplified way of explaining things, but it made sense to me.
I'm sure once an engineer comes out and check your levels with his box of tricks, you'll be sorted.

Re: Complete Rubbish
why not leave the ENGINEERS MENU to ENGINEERS. That is who it is for, and shouldn't be fiddled with by anyone else. the clue is in the name.

There you go kids. Next time NTL send a tech out, make sure he's a qualified Engineer. Uni degree and all
That's a joke btw, before anyone starts.

I totally agree, each to their own, just a pity the tech that came round didn't do his job correctly.
I wonder if he was an apprentice technician or yts technician or fully qualified.
Maybe the clues their but buggered if i know what catogory he fits into.
See you dont need to shout to be heard.
