What is this crap?

So I was On Demand checking out a movie, yet I press the wrong button and next thing I know, i've bought the movie when I didn't want to. No password prompt, no confirmation and now i'm out an extra £3.50. Now 3.50 isn't big in the grand scheme of a £90 bill, yet when I watch something for free (like a missed episode of Casualty) my password needs to be used.

Any idea how the hell I can turn on password requirement for movies so I don't make this mistake again?

Was it possibly before the watershed you wanted to watch Casualty?
I dunno. I've had issues with passwords before at different times of day, I'm not sure there is a watershed in terms of VOD.
I'd just suggest being a bit more careful? I mean, there's no password required to press the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal on your car is there? You just know not to press one when the other is required.

Silly analogy I know, but you learned the hard way - if £3.50 is indeed hard.
I'm sure you won't do it again.
I hope you watched the movie anyway.

You can set On Demand to require a PIN for every purchase by going into Settings, then Lock On Demand. Enter your PIN and press OK, then press Right until "All Shows Locked" is shown. Press TV to save.

Re: What is this crap?

When I worked for NTL, we got customers complaining that they had booked a film in error, if you dont actually tune in to that channel to watch, you shouldnt be charged. This was a few years back so I dont know if this has changed maybe a member of staff can confirm this?

Re: What is this crap?

That was with NVOD (Front Row). It doesn't apply with VoD, as you have to press Confirm twice to watch - and then you're tuned straight to the asset rather than waiting for the next showing.

Right, but with VOD it's possible to see how much of a particular programme has been watched. So it wouldn't be difficult, one would have thought, to cancel the charge if (say) less than the first 5 minutes had been watched (I beleive this was the cut-off time in the Front Row days). Obviously this time limit would have to be different for shorter programmes like music videos.

I've ordered things accidentely before (on Teleport) and it's very annoying to have to phone up to get the bill rectified. By the sound of things, it's something that happens pretty frequently. While I'm sure NTL are onto a nice little earner from people who either forget or can't be bothered to phone up, it is rather unfair, especially considering how things used to work in the pre-VOD days.
