Digibox on standby - can I switch off?
Hi
I'm going round the house switching off things on standby to save electricity. Can I switch off the Telewest TV digibox, or does it have to remain on for updates, etc. Same applies to Blueyonder broadband modem - can it be switched off.
PS if updates only happen during night I could fit timer to switch digibox off from morning to evening.

You can switch your modem and digibox off at the mains any time you like.

Thanks. Have switched off at wall socket when not in use for past 2 days and seen no problem so far.

The STB can be turned of at the plug socket fine, it is recommended to do so every 30 days to prevent the box slowing or loss of service.
The issue that may arise is when it is switched of for long periods of time, you might need to call and get an FS hit sent and a mains reset, should resolve.

Re: Digibox on standby - can I switch off?
The only time I have turned mine off is when rebooting it, I even forgot to turn it off when we went away for a few days earlier this year.

Your box would have to be off for near on 30 days for the entitlements to run out. Even then if you left it for long enough the refreshes would come back through. The entitlements are played out over and over again in an ever decreasing repetition rate.

I think the OP is trying to cut electricity usage and hence bills. A box left in standby doesn't use much less power than being left on all the time.

Re: Digibox on standby - can I switch off?
They don't always come back, a common fault is stuck on logo, as I said an fs hit will fix that.
