Pace Digital STB's
Digital TV and STB!
I read a lot about these boxes on these forums and how they don't work and how crap they are, I would like to say that I have a pace model set top box and I have had no problems at all with it, I'm not sure of the model but it's the one with the flap that covers the viewing card! I know that the interactive side of it can be slow at times but I know sky digital is the same depending upon what box they have given you which is normally either a crapppppy amstrad or the ugly thomson one... Helll maybe im a lucky git and I probly just jinxed myself who knows!
Customer service and installations!
I had to wait nearly six weeks for my install because when the bloke came out the first time two weeks after my order was place he said my cable was 6 inches too short and said i needed a re-pull, (he determind this by kicking the cable and leaving!!!! three weeks later a couple of guys called to do it and said i did not need one he grabed the end of the cable and gave a slight pull and hey presto done it 10 seconds why the first guy never done that i don't know prob some lazy ex tv video repair man with no common sense!
Broadband!!!!
Need I say anything about ntl's broadband other than it is a rip off, I have kept my bt line as well as having the ntlline as i use my bt line with aol broadband on it as i pay aol 19.99 a month for 1mb unlimited broadband with no caps!!! i do not use ntl's phone line infact i have no phone plugged into it!
so I guess on the whole I have no complaints about ntl's digital tv or phone service but there broadband is a rip off and there customer services is, well need i comment on that?

It depends how you define rip off!
You could have 2mb NTL for £25 and use your NTL phone line....... Save the BT line cost

Or even NTL 1mb for £9.99

That AOL BB is such a rip off

Re: Pace Digital STB's
But you are still capped??????? £25 for a 30gb limmit no thanks and I have read that people who go over there limit are charged more just look in the forums to see this and even more of a problem is that people are cancelling their ntl broadband and still getting billed for it and having there credit ruined until ntl manage to sort it out months later...
I prob don't even use 30gb a month but at least i have peace of mind that i ain't going to get any high bills i pay 19.99 no more no less and when i cancel I don't need to worry about being continually billed and risk my credit rating due to ntl's problematic billing system!

It's ideal for those who just browse web pages and pictures and maybe the odd music track here and there but remember after 12 months it goes up to 17.99 and why is aol crap????? i been with them for nearly a year i have had no problems at all with the service or billing unlike ntl's customers??

Welcome to the site
I wouldn't say AOL are crap.... They generate a load of business for me.
I'm not sure as to your point. Surely if you don't want the services then just don't sign up for them?

No caps on NTL mate Ask around....... Plenty of heavy users go over 30 gig and never pay a penny more or have their service capped.
NTL 1mb has a hard cap coming but there are no plans for a hard cap on 2&3mb at the moment. Things may change but I think you will find AOL are just as likely to start introducing caps in the future.
You may be confusing NTLs fair usage 30gig allowance with a cap, all it means is that if your excessive use of BB affects others in your area then NTL may act and ask you to chill out.......... If you look at AOLs small print you will probably find a similar 'get out' for them if your usage impacts on other customers...

Re: Pace Digital STB's
First of all to clear a few things I have aol through my bt line on adsl and not through my ntl service... so unless ntl own aol or something then as far as im aware ntl do not supply my broadband

I think that NTL provide the backbone, and parts of the service, that the AOL platform sits on.
Perhaps Simon would like to expand on his previous comment though?

ADSL is supplied by BT, and since the end of May 2002, it has been available to more than two-thirds of the UK population. AOL then supplies AOL Broadband services using this technology.

Re: Pace Digital STB's
Ah, but the OP is using a BT phone line so I assume that his internet is not being supplied by NTL in any way?

Re: Pace Digital STB's
NTL have nothing to do with AOL and they do not supply or have anything to do with my broadband service!
With regards to the cap or fair usage policy I have read on the forum (I should have kept the link) that some ntl customers (I read 3 posts left by individuals) have had higher bills with regards to there broadband whether or not this is to do with caps i don't know. but lets be honest if you have 2 or 3 meg broadband what are you using it for???? movies, media content, audio or maybe online gaming well if so when you are downloading these types of media a 30gig allowance ain't much over a period of one month.....
AOL also do speeds of 2MB via adsl, that is a very old thread you posted but their 2MB service is £5 more expensive than ntl's but there is no cap or fair use policy in force neither do aol have any plans to introduce any!
Anyway I don't want to go on and on and on about this, I do agree ntl have been supplying me with trouble free digital tv and a trouble free phone service allthough I don't use the ntl telephone line and I am happy with that, Untill ntl's broadband is better priced or it's fair use policy is changed then I know their broadand ain't for me!
