VOD software arrived in herts
woke up a bit ago, was watching TV when i got the old "your box is being updated..." message. thought it was probably just a false alarm but upon rebooting, i have the new VOD logo!
went downstairs, rebooted the old pace and thatd downloading as well...
software version on samsung is:
3_2L_P2N_N-S21000
saying that, going to the the on demand section shows up nothing, and gives the old screen about porn+sports and special events
so who knows but interesting anyway...

Re: VOD software arrived in herts
They download the software and leave it a few weeks before they switch the VoD servers on. Until then you will still have access to near VoD

Yup, Hemel Hempstead (as well as Hatfield) is fed from the Luton headend so if Luton's had the new software playout enabled, Hemel will get it too.

Re: VOD software arrived in herts
Hmm...my box updated today too, and the helpful message telling me that the new guide was there and that I should watch Chantl to find out more.
Pressing OK took me to said channel, where I managed to stomach two of the worst moronic braindead 'presenters' that should not be allowed near local radio, let alone a TV camera, giving me the hard sell for a worthless product I already have.
Naturally I able to stomach this nauseous bile for only one minute before I had to be violently sick, so if they did by some miracle tell me what was new, I missed it.
So....what's changed? I can't see any difference - it still doesn't work properly, and it looks the same.

Re: VOD software arrived in herts
well the only change i can see is the new VOD logo is a play button instead of the old icon!
as for not working, well since getting a samsung box, things havent been too bad, even managed to watch some multiscreen tennis recently
so, the changes are probably just the VOD software, waiting for the servers to be turned on, as bob said

In what way doesn't it work properly?
There isn't any difference in functionality until the VOD servers are switched on in your area. However, you should notice that the software is more stable and a bit faster than the previous version.

Re: VOD software arrived in herts
Well I can't say I've tested it to destruction since the update, but something as simple as looking for a TV show on tomorrow's schedules still doesn't work.

Oh yeah! Just checked and there is a new on demand logo. Can't say I'll be using VOD - any movies I just buy on DVD and I'm not big on sports events - hopefully they'll epand their content to be more like Homechoice, where I can watch actual TV shows on demand, music videos, etc.
Cool when/if it works though.

Re: VOD software arrived in herts
You can - there's a "Pick of the Week" section which currently carries BBC content, free, and a wide variety of music videos most of which are 20p for 24 hours viewing.

Re: VOD software arrived in herts
Don't know if you've seen Homechoice's offerings, but most of their stuff is included in the standard package costs, only movies and sports (I think) are PPV.
Like I said, cool if/when it works, but until there is a complete package of content new and old available it won't be complete for me.
