fed up loosing channels...

Hi,

Just though i would post a message on here to see if anyone can shed any light on my continually loosing channels. I currently have NTL's base TV package but recently Sky Mix has gone (everything elses seems to be there). I tried re-setting the box and rang the help desk a couple of nights ago. Some signals were sent but all to no avail.

I re-set the box tonight to see what would happen and now E4, E4+1, ITV2, ITV3 are missing (there may be more but that is all i have checked). Below is a sample from the error log:

18:47 18 reboot
18:47 19 cant lock to last tuned
18:47 9 cant tune to home frequency
18:56 Post RS error 2 7344
19:06 Lost OOB lock

also in the info page are the following:

Pre RS errors 4.3E-09
SNR 31.2dB
ACG 20

This happened a while ago and couldnt be fixed with the signal solution or re-starts so an engineer was sent. He swapped the box and everything was fine for a few weeks. Then some of the channels weent again, another engineer was sent and after two further boxes on the same visit the problem went away.

What can i do, if anything, to get this sorted? I am in Huddersfield and have a Pace box.

BTW, i also have broadband which hasn't been a problem.

Re: fed up loosing channels...

Pre RS (reed solomon) should read 0.00 as the higher the number ,the more pixilation on the box.Ignoren the event log as we dont really use that stuff. the connection ststus should be '5 connected',anything else & you've no return path. AGC/IF should read (over hereanyway) 37/62.I think you have a problem with the signal levels 9did the tech use a meter to check these?)

Re: fed up loosing channels...

When you say you've lost the channels, what do you mean? What happens when you try to tune to them?

Do you turn your STB off overnight?

Re: fed up loosing channels...

spike7451: One of the techs used a meter to check the levels and reckoned it was OK - although he was having trouble with his hot box so i'm not so sure...

spiderplant: the lost channels either come up with the message that the channels aren't included in my package (but all the ones i loose are the "freeview" channels!) or with a black screen (no audio/video but the guide tells me what is on...). I don't turn off the STB, other than to re-set the thing!

Post-RS errors are the scary ones. If the RS error correction can't fix the errors it does suggest some issues with the downstream signal to the box. RS is there to fix any Pre-RS errors.

Time for a call and engineer visit methinks.

Re: fed up loosing channels...

will call tech supp again and request a re-pull i think...this is what the tech said last time he visited as he couldnt trace the fault - he did mention that he was going to put a note on my account that specified this, but obviously never did?

Re: fed up loosing channels...

cool...engineer has just been and sorted the problem. Apparantly the signal level was way off - neg 20? Traced the problem down to the splitter in the cellar being installed the wrong way, i.e. the feed end was going up to the broadband with the actual feed going into one of the outputs, had been that way since the original install so i'm suprised it ever worked!

Anyway, all channels came back on straight away so hopefully problem solved
