Re: Wide screen
Hi, i too have a samsung box, ive had it for some 4 months now an it simply wont display any thing in wide screen. Selecting wide screen in the options has no effect what so ever. I have spoken to customer support about it to be told its a fault with the software version in the stb and will be fixed in an update at some point in the future but having said that theres been 2 updates since i recieved my samsung an neither fixed it.
I guess we must put up with it an continue to pay for half a picture.
(funny enough ive just had ntl accounts on demanding £5 arrears on my account or its to be down graded).
Now thas what i call a service. lol
typical ntl.

What they told you was Total b0llocks. 16:9 setting will display widescreen. 4:3 setting will display centre cut out. In Both settings all the menus are 4:3 anyway so ofcourse changing the setting wont have a immidate effect untill you switch back to TV.

I'm sure it's not a software problem. (There was a software fault that occasionally affected widescreen, but it was fixed in March).
How is your TV connected - SCART or RF? If it's SCART, firstly check that "SCART AV control" is turned on in the menus. Also, if you can, try swapping the SCART cable.
What screen format options does your TV have?

tv is connected via the scart, an yes av controll is on, ive gone through 6 different leads including with gold plated plugs.
My tv is a hitachi 32 inch wide screen, it has widescreen 16.9, normal 4.3 letter box and auto, i leave mine on auto most of the time but switching these makes no difference to this either.
I also have my pc, dvd player, xbox all connect to the tv via the secondary scart, viewing wide screen display from any of these devices works no problems.

Re: Wide screen
I've recently had my old Pace box replaced with Samsung box, having no problems with wide screen settings.
Perhaps your Samsung box is faulty??

You could be right, tho it is anoyin when a wide screen movie is on most of what we watch is not in widescreen, an given my experiences with the faults department in belfast i am very reluctant to have the box replaced for what is a minor issue. Over all it works 99% better than its ever did in the 5 an half yrs ive been with ntl so i think untill something gets worse ill stay as i am.
