Distribute NTL TV to many Tvs

Is there any way of distributing NTL TV around the home to many other Tvs.
I have purchased a (Philex.com) SLx8L 8 Way Aerial Amplifier for Satellite TV, Analogue TV, FM, DAB, VCR etc.htm in order to do this. But it seems that the NTL signal will not pass through the amplifier. I have a Pace box and do know that cabling up to the 8 way amplifier results in a signal, ie pace box tunes into the default 890 channel, but once cabled via the amplifier my box hangs on the black ...loading telewest screen. Is NTL out of the frequency range?

The set up I have is as per the diagram on

How is the cabling arranged in your house? By this I mean you should have a cable coming into the house from outside which goes direct into the pace box. You should then take the rf out cable and run it up to the splitter/distributor box that you have - that will share the ntl box signal out to all TVs... all TVs showing the same channel that is being watched on the main TV of course.

It must be cabled in a similar way to this as you cannot put anything between the cable that comes into the house and the STB (like a splitter) as this is against NTL's T&C and can decrease your service performance.

At home, I have the cable coming in from outside direct into my samsung box (as it should be) and then the SCART goes to the main TV (where the box is situated) and the RF-Out goes upstairs to the kids room. We have a TV in our room, but its not worth the hassle of getting a wire there to watch NTL as we hope to be moving soon... but I will do when we move

So who's box do you have and by which company

Telewest or NTL ?

are you trying to feed the cable from the wall socket that normally connects to the back of your pace box in to that amp. If you are it will not work.

Re: Distribute NTL TV to many Tvs

This can be done but you will end up with a bit of spaghetti wiring. Using only coaxial leads:

External cable connection > STB
STB coaxial out > Amplifier splitter in
Terrestrial aerial > amplifier splitter in
amplifier splitter out > VCR in
VCR out > main TV
amplifer splitter out > TV#2
amplifier splitter out > Radio in
etc

You will probably notice some drop of picture quality using the coaxial connections. I'd recommend you also connect with scart leads between the STB VCR and main TV.

Re: Distribute NTL TV to many Tvs

Guys,

Yes i see all your comments make sense. I do have telewest, and was actually taking my outside cable direct to the splitter/ amplifier. I will actually now take it from the pace box and see if this works. I however have to overcome 2 obstacles that are delaying my troubleshooting at present.
1) Time to down the cable as my wife is continually "wasting" constructive time watching Big brother (when she can be doing housework)
2) Maybe my 8 way distribution box is faulty on passing the LNB signal out as there is a little power LED thats supposed to indicate power on. "for LNB power the master outlet plate must provide DC continuity from IF port". Dont know what this means! (but have a physics degree so will understand if its explained. Also i am using a triplexed faceplate as per the diagram in my link above. Normal TV and FM are distributed round the house ok.

The part about LNB is only relevent to satellite installations. The LNB is a Low Noise Block-downconvertor which sits on the arm over the satellite dish.

The satellite STB provides power for the LNB through the RF 'F-type' connector, so there must be an uninterupted connection for this to occur. Any type of DC blocking, such as capacitors in series with the cable, would prevent the LNB from getting it's voltage.

It's also important that there is no DC connection between the inner & outer of the coax, as this will short circuit the supply to the LNB.

btw...which input on the distribution amp were you trying for your cable input?
