General Instruments CFT-2100

I have just bought a second hand cable box for the bedroom which is identical to the one conected to the NTL analog network downstairs. When I plugged it in I got a message saying "Your Decoder Is Deactivated Please Contact Your Cable Operator"

Is this box past redemption have I bought a dud, or can it be reset somehow?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am really new to this sort of stuff

Re: General Instruments CFT-2100

You can only connect Ntl supplied equipment to the network and virtually all of the analogue boxes are the property of Ntl so it shouldn't have been sold in the 1st place.

If you are wanting another box you will need to get Ntl to supply this and pay an additional monthly charge (I think it's £7.00 a month for analogue) for the 2nd box.

Re: General Instruments CFT-2100

You could always try to get your money back from whoever sold it to you, failing that you could post the details here for NTL to see lol

Re: General Instruments CFT-2100

How many times does it have to be said that it is not necessarily stolen.
If the cable companies throw them away or do not want to collect them & advise their customers to throw them away (and they have done) then once it has been done it can then legally be "owned" by someone else.

But it's most likely just a useless unit unless illegal means are used to get it working.

see here and here for previous threads on this sort of spare box.

in essence it's useless to you for legal reception.
