Smile Power Outage Leaves Phone Off

Hi,

Just had a rude awakening this morning with all my neighbours' burglar alarms going off because of a power outage. Couldn't get on the Internet for about half an hour as there was no power for my PC.

One weird thing is that although my TV and broadband came back, the telephone still remains dead. Tried to ring Customer services on my mobile but came up with this message that calls are not free. Anyone else in South Manchester have the same problem?

Perhaps one of the mods could take my details and relay them on please?

You are one of the lucky ones. The NTL message is that customers in Manchester may be experiencing a loss of telephone service but that it is a "local fault" and it is being dealt with. Looks like we'll just have to wait.

Good thing we all have mobiles at our house.

When did this happen? I noticed that my alarm clock time was all messed up when I woke up, phone and internet have been fine though.

I think it was about 6.45am as that's when all the burglar alarms in my street sounded off together. It lasted about half an hour, but when the power came back on telephones in South Manchester were off for a while.

Thanks for the thought, but we found the phone was working about 11.30am.It was a "local fault". It definitely affected Altrincham, Carrington, and Sale and possibly other areas too.
