Storm Damage
We had a long, lingering thunderstorm in Rochdale this afternoon; at about 430, lightning was so close the lights flickered in my friend's house. Later we found that the broadband was out, and the cable box is still saying channels are unavailable, please check connections, turn off, yadda yadda... With ntl's service now closed, anyone have any news, any ideas, etc?

Re: Storm Damage
hi and to the site , try unplugging the boxes for a few minutes , if this does not cure it then you will have to wait till tomorrow now , unless it is an emergency telephone fault that will hopefully be dealt with straight away

Re: Storm Damage
Got the same problem, cannot locate channels, check cables.....
Been like that since 10 last night, and ntl are aware off this problem they say.
If your phone their fault service, listen to the message and if its got your postcode or area, then you know "they are aware" if not then you will have to report it tomorrow.

Can you tell me that fault number? All we get from the customer service line, after doing the Menu mamba, is a message saying their office is closed now...

The phone seems to be working. We tried unconnecting the box, no luck. Does the broadband run through the TV's cable box (it's not my house, so I don;t know myself)?

Re: Storm Damage
you can get hold of Broadband Technical Support on 0845 650 0925 to report the lack of BB connection... if it is a known problem they will give you details as you phone through

Re: Storm Damage
Check the green box near your house... the storm may have caused some damage to it with rain perhaps?
I'm surprised our services still work so well with our green box looking similarly like a bank in an old western film (doors blown off)

Re: Storm Damage
We've just had a thunderstorm in Cambridge. A big flash of lightning, loud thunder... and the phone no loger works. However, the internet and TV are OK.
How is this possible?

phone & tv/internet use separate cables, so it is possible to fry your phone, and not your modem/tv, but I wonder if it might be a wider problem, than that?
- we had an intense storm earlier, it lasted less than an hour, but at least the garden got some water..

Re: Storm Damage
Unplugged the transformer to the digital phone, waited ten seconds, plugged it in again. Sorted.
Doh!

Re: Storm Damage
Well about 3pm we had a power cut. After that the BB was off so I waited for things to reset.2 hours later decided to report it only to find the phone wasn't working.Using my mobile I reported the BB only to be told that there was maintainance going on in the area.Yeah right seeing as it hasn't appeared on the NTL status page.
Eventually the BB came back. However the phone has not been restored and we await an engineer/or engineer's report on Monday.
