Question connection/wiring question.......

i have a tv point in my lounge and all my bedrooms wired back to the loft where there is a booster and an ariel on the roof. now that i have ntl cable into my lounge, how do i wire/connect all the other tv's in the house so that as well as being able to watch cable in the bedrooms, if say someone wanted to watch a regular channel (bbc1,bbc2,itv,ch4,ch5) in one of the bedrooms whilst lets say mtv was being watched in the lounge, can this be done(im told it can) and how.. please help..........nat

I'm not sure to be honet, but it certainly sounds possible... one of our tv experts should be along shortly with some advice

Hi - if I understand the question right - yes you can you need to daisy chain together all the sources

In my case-outside tv aeiral to freeview-sky-sat-ntl-vcr that means you have all your signals in the RF cabel when you put it into your booster/splitter/ distribution system.

You can the watch all those sources in bed - if you tune your tv to the right channels

Re: connection/wiring question.......

It is possible to take it off the VCR output, but you'll have to make sure all the connections are good otherwise you might get 'ghosting' (co-channel interfearence)

Re: connection/wiring question.......

Erm you seem to have asked something slightly different in your blog, can you clear up one thing, do you want to be able to watch different cable channels on each tv at the same time? If so the answer is you cannot without additional STBs. If you only want to be able to view the same cable channel as downstairs on the upstairs tvs then you can do it by splitting the signal as suggested above.

Re: connection/wiring question.......

to Cable Forum

This is somethign that can be done, but as pointed out by other posters, you do run the risk that the signal sent to other TVs may have a bit of "ghosting". You can only wathc the one cable channel at a time, so different TVs, would all have to be happy with the same one, or select a terrestrial channel instead.

My setup is indicated in the diagram attached.

Note that if you want to change channels on your STB while watching in another room you would need somethign like a digi eye remote extender. Other threads on this forum discuss those and their compatibility with differing types of Set Top Boxes (not all will work)

Re: connection/wiring question.......

Yes it cant be done and very easily.

On the back of the digi box, there will be a RF out socket, run a coax lead from to the input on the booster in the loft, using a Y splitter or a combiner, put both the ariel and the NTL feed into the booster, and the signal will then be passed around anything that is connected to the booster.

As previously stated though, you will only be able to watch the same NTL channel on all the tv's.
