NTL change phone number
How easy is it to do this and how much does it cost to change your existing phone number ?

Re: NTL change phone number
I guess that would depend on the reason for change.
I'm not sure that NTL are obliged to change it unless they have goofed.
I might find out tomorrow though as I'm about to start what is likely to be a long and bitter battle with NTL to get them to change mine.
I'm supposed to be unlisted but I keep getting unsolicited sales-type phone calls.
There are only about half a dozen people who have been given this number.

Register with the TPS which should stop the unsolicited calls coming in and no reason why it should be a long and bitter battle to change your number

I asked specifically for my number not to be listed.
I understand what you're saying about the TPS but I also understand that this can take some time to kick in and isn't 100% effective.
I don't want any calls from anybody other than family and friends, ever, ever, ever. Not one company calling me to sell me anything. Companies always get my mobile number, this in itself is normally enough of a deterrent to stop them phoning me, if they do phone me on the mobile I can simply screen the call (if no name comes up on the screen I don't answer it).
I know this is probably gonna take some time to sort with NTL, they've done this to me before and it took ages to sort out
I'm prepared to be proven wrong though, and I hope that I am.....

Re: NTL change phone number
To be fair many companies don't get your number from anywhere, they just generate random numbers and call them. There's no way your or Ntl are going to stop them doing that.

Even when listed its no where near 100% effictive have been on list since last year and seen no reduction in sales calls.
Only benefit is once the call has been made you can log a comPplaint with tps. Problem with this service is that is completely relies on the company that called you to have paid to have their call lists screened to have people on the tps list removed, most dont bother ie. loan companys, 3 mobile etc as tps only slap there wrists and dont fine anyone.
Speaking to the tps is a mission itself allways have to leave message and wait a couple of days till they get back you
Have you considered asking ntl to block incoming calls where the callers numbers is witheld, I found myself a lot sales calls came from private numbers.

Re: NTL change phone number
Havimg already got ACR (Anonymous Call Rejection) on my ntl line, I was most unimpressed to receive a sales call - offerring me a 'great deal' on upgrading my mobile phone. The interesting point, is that (a) the phone line only went live 2 weeks earlier, and (b) ACR did not stop the call - which HAD no number, not because it was a failure with ACR, but because the call came from an Indian call centre.
The ONLY way you can guarantee that only the numbers you want will contact you, is to use a mini-PABX system like Jeeves, which will reject all calls whose numbers you specifically don't include in the lookup table..

ACR will only stop number withheld calls and not number unavailable calls.

I thought that was obvoious from my posting? However, should one wish to be pedantic, the unavailability of the number still does not negate the fact that the call is indeed anonymous. As the whether the actual number was unavailable is a moot point, having received calls from both Europe and the sub-continent with their numbers intact (via BT) but NTL somehow manage to drop the ball by not data bridging the information to the end user.

Sorry, I did not know whether you had understood what ACR would do and was just trying to clarify it.
I get very few number withheld calls these days - most (90%) are either number unavailable or have a fake, unobtainable number so would get through ACR, if I used it.

But when is anything ever 100% effective? I am with TPS and have ACR, haven't received any unsolicited calls for a good while now.
