Digibox RGB query

Anyone know if any ntl digiboxes have an RGB-quality output to vcr? I'm recording on to a Pioneer 420-dvr and getting a substandard picture. Pioneer tell me it's because only the TV output of the digibox is RGB, while the vcr scart socket outputs at a lower grade.

As you may have gathered, I'm not very technically-minded. But I know an impaired picture when I see one. And, by the way, both the scart sockets I'm inputting into on my Toshiba TV are RGB equipped.

Hi marko

Both Pace and Samsung have a Composite or RGB output.

What make of Ntl digibox are you using

The question was "Does the RGB come of the VCR scart socket?" We know the RGB signal comes out of the TV scart socket, but does it apply to the other socket?

Hello geminian68. It's a green Pace box. Standard issue. Has the greenish "cigar-shaped" remote with the luminous OK button.

To clarify, it's sending RGB from the "to TV" output - and gives a pretty good picture. But monitoring the picture through the vcr output gives less impressive results - and means the picture I record on my hard drive is also flawed.

Am toying with the idea of swapping the scarts so the dvr is fed via the digibox's RGB output. But that seems to necessitate having the dvr permanently switched on. And it's a noisy little bugger!

Does the DVD-R have a pass-thru? Most do.

You could try a Scart Adaptor plugged into the digibox's RGB output

And to the site

RGB only comes out of the TV SCART. You'll have to arrange to split it, or feed your TV via the DVD-R.

(Just for info, there are RGB inputs on the VCR SCART socket - these loop through to the TV SCART socket)

Re: Digibox RGB query

Connect the TV scart output on the STB to the L1 input on the Pioneer then connect the L2 scart on the Pioneer to the scart on the TV.
This is "loop through" and if all scarts are set to RGB then you can view and record in RGB on to the Pioneer. To record on the Pioneer you need to select L1 as the record input.
To use the VCR you connect the VCR output on the STB to AV2 on the VCR and then connect the VCR AV1 scart to a second TV scart. This allows record/playback of the VCR.
The above assumes that you have 2scarts on both the TV and VCR.

Re: Digibox RGB query

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try what pinatubo suggested. I assume this will still allow me to view cable TV with the Pioneer off. Its cooling fan may only be small, but the racket gets on my nerves something rotten!

Re: Digibox RGB query

That's how I have my 420 set up and it works perfectly.
You may notice odd wide screen switching problems when the Pioneer is switched on(if you have a wide screen TV) but you can get around them very easily.

Re: Digibox RGB query

Do you also have a problem with your cooling fan? I wouldn't say mine is particularly obtrusive, but once you "tune in" to the sound, its quite noticeable. The silence when I turn the Pioneer off is almost deafening!

Re: Digibox RGB query

Very little noise from my 420 - certainly no noisier than a VCR when playing.
