New Samsung box
Hi. I received my shiny new Samsung box today as I was having my BB upgraded to 2Meg (old PACE box won't cope with new speed I believe). Although BB is fine at new speed and I do have all channels OK.
I have read the other threads regarding the "picture shift problem" but my woe is slightly different.
I am having trouble with the TV not switching over to the AV channel when the STB is turned on. Every now-and-then it works, but not very often!
I have found a way around it that works 100%, although I'm not happy. I should add that I have a wide screen Philip's TV. If you configure the STB for 4:3 or 4:3 (Letterbox) all is OK on the switching front but I obviously don't get a W/S picture. The TV switched OK with the old PACE STB and still works OK with my Freeview box and video recorder.
I have disconnected all other SCART lead just in case there could be some interference, still no change. Even changing for different SCART leads makes no difference.
The software build is: 3_1_1_P2N_N-S2100, BTW I am in South Manchester.

Re: New Samsung box
This is a bug with the software that you've got. It only happens if the box is tuned to a channel currently showing in widescreen. As you say, it isn't the same problem as the "picture shift" (which your software hasn't got)
For now work round it by pressing the AV button on the TV's remote. Alternatively just leave the STB on all the time.
The bug will be fixed by the next software update. I don't know when this will be though.

Re: New Samsung box
Assuming you've got your NTL remote programmed correctly for your TV, the pressing * and # together will probably switch it to the AV channel.
Keep up, Spiderplant

Re: New Samsung box
You expect me to remember that bizarre key combination?
What, if anything, does * + TV do?

What does CPE stand for again?
* + TV switches the TV to RF input (from Scart), on the two TVs I've tried it on. It also removes teletext.
Personally I think it would be better if *+TV cycled through the inputs, avoiding the need for *+#, but that might be a TV-dependent thing. Incidently, *+# isn't mentioned on the info sheet that comes with the remotes -- I picked it up on one of these forums.

Re: New Samsung box
I also have the same problem with it not switching. Usually my TV will switch ok if I 'cold start' it: ie. with the mains on/off button, but it won't switch if I turn on the TV from standby. Eventually, however, it will switch if I change channels on the STB a few times. The workaround I use was to tune one of the TV channels (channel 0 for example) to the AV signal, and as the TV remembers which channel it was on when it was last turned off (I never watch terrestial channels btw), the STB output always comes on.
