Re: Digital Cable Descrambler/Filter

That's a very misleading auction. The "descrambler" the seller refers to is actually a return path attenuator, which stops any messages getting back from the STB to the headend. This means that Interactive/VoD will not work at all, and will stop PPV purchase requests from getting back to the billing system. Once the STB's viewing card runs out of credit, it won't be able to order any more.

Besides all that, the use of such a device is prohibited by section 9.5 of the ntl Residential Terms and Conditions, which state that "No one other than an authorised representative may tamper, interefere or modify any of the Equipment." The Equipment includes the STB and all cabling.

The sale of such a device is not, in itself, illegal, AFAIK. However, connecting it to your STB with the intent of stealing PPV movies/events is Fraud, and would be treated as such.

Bearing in mind that NTL will notice immediately that your box has dropped off the network... It's not very clever.

@ Rodrigo - I couldn't have put it better myself mate.

Why do I feel like posting the picture of a bunny with a pancake on its head?

this is the website <Rob C: link deleted>
for the purposes of NTL/Telewest cable TV, using them on the network to obtain stuff you've not paid for is very illegal, it's theft and possibly fraud.

Also if you havew paid for the service you'd like to decrypt with the hardware, then NTL/telewest will all ready have provided you with the needed hardware.

So whichever way you look it at it buying a descrambler/decryptor is a complete waste of time

Edit: can i also remind people that the FCC is an American regulatory body, it's regulation do not apply to the UK
