Re: NTL Samsung SMT-2100C Reset??

Sorry,, I'll rephrase the question.

Anyone know how to completely reset the memory chip inside the Samsung SMT-2100C.
Presently there is information stored on the STB that needs to be erased before I plug it into the NTL network.

Looks like to me that what you intend to do is illegal. No-one will help you to do this, if this is the case.

Re: NTL Samsung SMT-2100C Reset??

It's definitly not illegal......to reset a STB back to defaults.

I have STB that has been used in conjunction with a filter.

The previous owner of the STB has now gone SKY and given me the kit minus the filter. Now...if I was to plug the box back in (minus filter) it would send all the stored info back to the supplier thus charging me for all the PAY As You Go channels watched.
I have found out various different techniques to reset most STB via the net except of course this one.
By pressing the on button and variations of other keys on different STB's you can reset back to default settings completely refreshing the chip.

As in my first post I said : this STB is silver and all my TV kit is silver/chrome
so it would be nice to remove the blue/black STB and put this one in its place.

Phew.......!

Re: NTL Samsung SMT-2100C Reset??

The owner of all ntl set top boxes is ntl. The boxes are rented from the company and must be returned upon cessastion of the contract.

Whoever had this box should have returned it to ntl. You won't be able to use it on your own account.

Re: NTL Samsung SMT-2100C Reset??

After speaking to an NTL installer I was informed that I would be able to use it so long as I registered the kit with my supplier. What he actually said was...:

Tell NTL original box is damaged, get a callout to attend, they register this box as left over kit from previous cust.

Well something like that.

How would you propose paying for the said services?

This makes me so mad. First of all, 'aquiring' a box by any other way than an official installtion is illegal.

Secondly, I'm incensed that it was even suggested that you call out an engineer to come a fix an stb which as AFAIK is not broken, just the wrong colour... How about NOT wasting a call on your dodgy dealings, and leaving an engineer appointment for someone that actually needs it.

It people like you (and your mate ) that cost ntl money and time, essentially affecting the services they're able to offer to decent customers.

Can this account possibly be banned seeing as the author has just effectively admitted requesting assistance with a chipping boxes? I know it's rightly frowned upon on here.
