Do ntl charge you if you don't redial every hour?

Hi guys

My friend told me that NTL are starting to charge for their free calls (ie, the free evening and weekend calls to other ntl customers) if you don't redial within the hour. I always knew this was the way with BT, but it never was with NTL. Is there a change now that means we have to redial? Any information would be appreciated!

If you stay on the 3-2-1 standard phone line, its 5p to connect then a free call (within the evening + weekend timescale) no change, relax.

If you subscribe to a Talk Plan, the 5p charge is over-ridden but you pay more up front - ie 6p plan, Talk Local, Talk Unlimited, Talk 24

AFAIK that is not correct - for local "free" calls to other ntl customers you pay the 5p connection charge and then the call is free for it's duration.

Re: Do ntl charge you if you don't redial every hour?

I also believe that you pay a 5p connection fee for the ntl-ntl call.

For the other Talk Unlimited things, ntl will charge you the 3-2-1 rate if you do not redial after 59 minutes. You pay 6p per call for the offpeak if you have that package.

Re: Do ntl charge you if you don't redial every hour?

I have the Local FREE call plan. I was told that ALL calls have a 1hr Cut off point (for FREE).

So NTL 2 NTL or any other provider...

That's what I see on my bill.
I phone every Thursday a NTL house for a meeting.. 1 hr 10min... & I pay like 15p for it.

So with Talk Unlimited 24, I can talk for 3 hours (theoretically :P ) and not have to redial every hour to avoid being charged? It can be one long continous call?

Well according to the NTL website you have to redial every 60 minutes to avoid charges!!

Re: Do ntl charge you if you don't redial every hour?

Something to be careful about

For talk unlimited...Ive read that the fee is 6p inc vat AND after 60 minutes for UK calls any time over is charged at 3p per minute. It does not state 'only for peak rate' so to me its like this:

for a national call at local rates at the weekend (not cable to cable):
6p connect, free 60 minutes then 3p per min

I'm assuming that note 6 of the PDF on their website should state 'normal tarrif applies after 60 minutes' otherwise after your free call, 50 mins would have cost £1:50p (at 3p) while the same 1h50 min without the talk unlimited plan at £5:50 per month would cost the same!

---------- Post added at 13:49 ---------- Previous post was at 13:38 ----------

To be honest, the definitions are not clear enough for me. The tables given are not clear about what type of call attracts what tarrif

Calls included within free talk time do not incur a connection charge.

Re: Do ntl charge you if you don't redial every hour?

I would assume making people redial after 1hour or pay is to try and persuade people not to stay on the phone for hours on end,

Obviously the service is contended becuase they are not going to provide enough circuits for eveyone in the country to use their phone at the same time , its completely un-neccecery (not to mention the cost involed would be astromonical )

So im guessing the idea is if you hang up after an hour and redial it gives someone else a chance to grab the 'path' you were using though part of the network and helps prevent contention issues popping up.
