Well, the list that Jellybaby posted is a good start.

What seems to be the problem? Completely dead?

What happens if you ring it? Ringtone or something else? If it's ringtone, make sure you've tried using a different phone on the line. If something else, remove EVERYTHING from the line and ring it again and see what happens. If you get ringtone then, you've got an equipment fault.

Think it is ntl have tried all you said
it went dead about 4 weeks ago they fixed it without visiting me
