How to make using your computer more comfortable.

This article is based this on a similar document Display Screen Assessors give to users at work, but most of the advice given applies to home users as well.
12 tips for safe use
General use- Raise or lower your seat until your forearms are horizontal with your shoulders relaxed. Make sure your wrists are straight when your hands are on the keyboard.
- Sit right back in your chair. Form a relaxed curve in your lower back (don’t slouch) and adjust your back rest to provide support in this position.
- Use a footrest if your feet do not comfortably touch the floor.
- Try to position the screen at 90 dgerees to windows (bits of glass you look through, nothing to do with the OS), and as far from the windows as possible. Close window blinds to minimise reflections and glare.
- Remove any obstacle under your desk that prevents you sitting in front of the keyboard and screen.
- Try to arrange your desk with the main items you need most frequently within easy reach.
- Set your display viewing distance to suit screen characters and copytext size. You may need to change font size or move your screen back or forward a little for different jobs.
- Adjust your screen angle to suit your sitting position and minimise reflections from ceiling lights. Ideally, the screen should be at the same level as your eyes (you should not look down or up to it).
- Adjust the brightness control to suit the lighting level. You may need to do this during your work if lighting levels change throughout the day, e.g. sunlight becomes brighter.
- Clean your screen regularly using a special anti-static cleaner.
- Vary your posture and take frequent breaks from the display screen.
Mouse tips- Keep the mouse within immediate reach.
- Move your arm not just your wrist to move the mouse.
- Rest your arm on the desk or arm support between movements.
- Keep your fingers relaxed - don’t grip the mouse.
- Use a mouse mat to reduce friction on the desk top.
- Keep the mouseball clean (obviously, this does not apply to the Optical mice, so may be a good excuse to get that new mouse you've been looking at.
