V+ Box Random Reboots In Evening

Hi all

I live in the BS48 area and the last two nights my V+ box has started to randomly reboot itself. Not sure which manufacturer it is but it's about 15 months old and black if that helps with 19 hours free on the hard disk.

I saw it reboot twice last night (Monday), once when watching and once when in standby and tonight (Tuesday) now 5 times. All whilst watching TV.

Phoned CS who advised me to switch off at wall for one minute and back on again (which I thought was taboo with the V+) and see what happened.

Within 5 minutes it rebooted itself again. CS booked engineer for Thurs so job done in that respect.

However I'm curious if there is anything else going on within the Virgin Network that could be causing this i.e. N3 updates..... (ooops it's rebooting again) purely because afaik it only happens in the evening. Although I guess that could be because that's when we use it most.

Darn it - there it goes again. That's twice in the time it's taken me to write this post ..... maybe it's had it after all

OK thanks all .. and there it goes again this time from Standby .... maybe I'll just switch it off overnight and see what happens .....

Hi to the forum!

V+ boxes, especially SA's are sensitive to any degradation of signal on the network. Are you getting any freezing pics? If they overheat this will cause reboots too...Nothing blocking ANY vents on the box and plenty of room around it?

Hi and thanks for the response

I've not had a picture problem at all in fact the picture quality has always been excellent.

The box is on a shelf on it's own under the TV and there's nothing on top so the vents are clear. It's just been sat there since the last V+ got replaced due to a hard disk failure about 15 months ago. No environmental changes at all.

I look on myself as technically aware at least so I always try to treat my kit in the right way.

mmmm .. so no reboots tonight but got home from work to find the box on Channel 998. Is this a sign that it has received an update perhaps?
