Can't get normal tv after V+ box is off?

After i got the V+ installed i was able to switch the V+ onto standby and watch my normal terrestrial tv.I have two or three reasons why i want to watch BBC1 ,2,ITV etc without the V+ on but i won't go into them just now.So,5 days ago for some reason when i switch the v+ box off(standby)all i get on my normal TV is a black screen and the logo of whatever channel its on up the top right hand side, and the icon saying no signal. Why has this suddenly happened?I took my outside aerial out of the back of the V+ and plugged it into the back of the TV to see if i got normal TV channels again,i did?Can Virgin disable things from their end so i can't watch BBC1,2,itv,CHANNEL 4 AND 5 without the v+ box on?I just have a normal Sony trinitron non hdtv tv.

I am just racking my brain here, but can’t understand why you cannot get normal TV, like BBC 1, ITV & C5 however I am unclear whether you mean that you turn off the V+ box or put it on standby.

I take it when you use your TV’s remote control that you are not getting a picture – check whether you have switched your TV to receive a digital or analog signal? (makes a difference)

Depending on how competent you are with the wiring on the back of your TV I would suggest that unplug your V+ and plug in the aerial to your Sony Trinitron and check that the TV is working, if it works OK then you will know that there is something up with your V+ box. If so call out the engineers. But only if you know how to put it all back again.

There is no reason why you should not receive terrestrial TV

Re: Can't get normal tv after V+ box is off?

I'm not sure if this would work for you but my coaxial cable is plugged permanently into the TV not the V+.

If I want to watch an analogue channel on my TV rather than the the feed from my V+ I use the AV button on the TV remote control which switches between the 2 input sources.

Add. Sorry Watching You, I have kind of duplicated some of your advise to the OP

Re: Can't get normal tv after V+ box is off?

I mentioned in my post it's when im putting it on standby,i also mentioned that i had tried putting the outside aerial straight to the TV and it was fine. The main point here im trying to make is that the way the engineer left it after installation was that if i put the V+ box onto standby i could could then use my TV as normal, but suddenly a few days ago when i put teh V+ box on standby i get no tv channels? Its just done this itself!Or as i asked in my original question, can Virgin change something in the box so i 'have' to have the box on all the time?without visiting my house?

Sounds like it *might* be a fault on the V+ box. Is you V+ connected to the TV via a scart lead or just using another aerial lead from the V+ to the TV?

If there's no aerial into the back of your TV you won't be able to get a signal into the TV for it to display. I wouldn't bother putting the aerial into the back of the V+ box, just put it straight to your TV. The V+ box doesn't do anything with it anyway. i haven't even got an aerial at my house so you won't be missing out on anything.
