Recording HD to dvd

Hi All
this is my first thread so hopefully you will bare with me.
I recently got a v+ box from vm with the xl package and I am very happy with it, I have even had occasion to ring the techy dept for help and they were very good indeed. I recently recorded the bbc hd showing of the Celine dion show from Los vagas to the box. It`s brilliant best show ever. So I thought I would record it to dvd via scart unfortunatly the picture has come out in the wrong format it has retained the hd settings which is what it`s supposed to do I suspect. But is there a way to convert these hd dimensions to 720x576 ordinary video standard. So as it can be viewed on standard dvd tv. Thanks in advance.

to the forum. The picture may well have come out in the wrong format, but what is output via the Scart is not HD. The scart cable physically cannot handle the data required.

As far as I know, the V+ automatically downscales the HD to 720x576. However, it will only output to DVD via the bottom (VCR) scart and will only use Composite Video.

Thanks for the reply stuart
Yes that`s what I have done taken a scart to composite out from the lower connection on the v+ box into the dvd recorder on composite. However downscaling has not taken place or if it has it has downscaled to something other than 720x576. Looks to me as though the vertical resolution is 768 so the picture is vertically stretched.

Ah, the DVD recorder is misinterpreting a widescreen signal then. I don't know how you do it, but you need to ensure your DVD recorder is set to record Widescreen.
