How long before next major software update?

When are we due another update and what function would you like to see?
I would like to be able to edit recordings, Chopping adverts and cutting start and end buffers off recordings
Ie 15 min program 2 min start buffer, 5 min end buffer all adds up

Regards

Major software update for what???

Would be good if V+ actually used start and end of programme signals to start and stop recording as opposed to a pre set time from a programme guide. I've missed loads of sport due to over runnig games on before

I doubt we'll see another major upgrade for these boxes. The new V+ from Samsung is due this summer; any further updates to the current boxes are likely to be minor bug fixes (the big ones appear to have been sorted).

Last Year I attended one of these Virgin Media Focus groups and couple of the items they took away from this was;

Being able to edit recordings, as you can on other PVR:
  • this would be very useful when you consider that the average American drama only runs for 42 minute in the hour. Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, Supernatural all 42 minutes therefore you have twenty minutes of commercials. You can fit three shows into the space of two if you removed the adverts (sorry advertisers).

Being able to record retrospectively:
  • You are channel hopping and start watching a show and then part way through think, hmmm the wife would also like to see this however whilst you can rewind back (on the channel you are watching) for around 90 minutes, you cannot record from this.

Series channel link:
  • Watching your favourite show, whether it be Heroes, Lost, Prison Break, The Sopranos, 24 or The Wire. But it would be useful if the EPG could flag up which other channels are also showing this series, for the occasion when the recordings are cut off at the beginning/ end or if you suddenly become a convert and wants to catch the previous series.

There were a couple of other ideas banded about, like carrying more foreign channels for the benefit of Japanese, Polish, Chinese, French & Germans based here but also useful for language students; however those were the three main ones that I found most useful for the future.

Ideally what I would really like is for the day when a new series starts and they put these all on-line or on the system to download so that we can schedule how and when we watch these shows. So that we don’t have muppet companies like ITV who despite having three channels can’t even manage to schedule "Pushing Daisies" without having to bodge it and cut out the third episode because they were not aware that the European Championships (planned four years ago) was starting on Saturday, doh!

Anyway one year on, we are still waiting for any of theses ideas to become reality; after all we have just managed to get a working probe with mini JCB and oven on Mars. So how difficult can it be to edit our recordings or record retrospectively?

I only want one thing fixed. S-P-E-E-D.

I just want the V+ box to change channels and respond quickly like my old cable box did and Sky+ does.

First I've heard of this - where can I find more info?

Will those of us who already have V+ be upgraded, or will they give them to new customers first, and upgrade the rest of us later/as boxes fail?

All we know so far can be found here and the DS link in there.

VM recently announced that they were replacing the existing platform with IPTV. I am not sure whether this means that all of our boxes will have to be replaced or whether the existing boxes will work on the new platform. If the former, then I can't see them bothering to upgrade the existing boxes.
