Sorry if its been done before

Hi all, first post so go easy.
I have seen conflicting info on these boards as to whether V+ upscales via component, anyone only connect using component leads, is it worth it?

My Sony 37" plasma doesn't support HDMI, only 720p via component, & this would be my only option to get 'hi def' into it, some posts say you can't get SD through component, others say you can, but I would like across the board improvements on all content rather than forking out only to benefit from BBC HD

A: From Standard Definition (SD) channels, it's very good, better than the standard boxes. If you have a HD Ready TV set and are connecting to it via HDMI or Component, the V+ will upscale all SD content to the HD resolution you have selected.

Ideally looking for experiences of people in the same boat as me, but of course all advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome!

You can't get SD component out of V+. It always upscales to 720p or 1080i, and does a pretty good job of it. The picture isn't quite as good as HDMI, but should be much better than SCART.

Be aware that some HD content is copy protected, and can't be watched via component. And officially component is no longer supported by VM, so if you have a problem with it, they may refuse to help. (You'll find help here, though)

Thanks, I think this is where I have got confused, I thought that not being able to get SD through component meant that the only thing I would get out of the component would be the HD channels, all one of them , & I would have to watch the rest via scart
So basically I would be able to watch all channels through component right?

I understand the copyright issue, & TBH I won't be ordering HD programs via PPV.

Hmmm, doesn't seem fair as they say you can connect via component on there website, but I guess they can do as they wish.

Many thanks for the above.

So that leaves the ever unanswerable Q of is it worth it?

Anyone have any opinions on the picture quality of the SD signal upscaled via component to a 720p TV, Vs a normal V box via RGB scart ??

Thanks again.

I haven't tried with component, it is certainly better than a normal V box using hdmi, - but I reckon if spiderplant says it does a good job then I would trust that information, I haven't ever seen him give dodgy advice

Where did you see that? I think component is still mentioned in the help pages, but the sales stuff now says you must use HDMI.
