New V+ User

Hi All

I decided that I was paying over the odds for my phone/TV/Broadband from Virgin and after quite a bit of research (and a failed attempt at Christmas!) I called them up and upgraded to TV XL and V+ box, phone M and Broadband L (which doesn't work but that's another story!). Basically upgraded TV from L to XL and swapped in V box for V+ box and paying £8 less per month too!

Anyway, installed yesterday, all seems to be working properly.
Quiet, not noisy.
Channel changing as fast as the V box, or as near as dammit.
Set to 1080 and signal through HDMI to 40" Sony Bravia (switch TV to 'SMART' on shows with black side bars, if they are annoying)- cracking picture, HD, awesome picture.
Well chuffed!

Re: New V+ User

You can set the V+ to 1080 Wide if you want to ruin 4:3 programmes by stretching them to an incorrect ratio.

You will be better setting it to 720p wide rather than 1080.

Why?

1080 on VM has messed up menus and wide is doing the same thing as setting your tv to smart.

IMHO 720P is better than 1080i.

Re: New V+ User

I have mine set to 1080i (non-wide) the menus are fine for me and the picture is better than 720p, though I get a sharper / clearer picture through my Hi-Def satellite receiver also set to 1080i.

However I have seen lots of posts with people not happy with 1080i with the menus. Still which do you watch more the channel itself or the menu.

Re: New V+ User

I have my v+ box set to 1080 wide (Toshiba XF355 40 inch) and there is no problem with the menus. Excellent picture on standard definition as well as BBC HD (on high quality transmissions, there is little difference between SD and HD . . . but don't let's start that arguement again!)

Re: New V+ User

I am thinking of joining the V+ revolution too. As long as the £75 install offer is extended beyond 31/5!

I have a nowmal Sony w/s TV will they supply me with SCART and HDMI lead for when I get an HD TV is a couple of months?

Is all the install involves just swapping the box or is there cable work outside? Or cables in the house changed?

Will my digi sender work with the V+ box?

I currently have an aerial bypass on standard box will this work and be fitted to V+ box?

THANKS any V+ experts

Re: New V+ User

They'll just leave you with a SCART lead.

Once you get your HDTV, just request an HDMI lead and one will be sent, the easiest way is requesting via the newsgroups.

Cool Re: New V+ User

Got connected to V+ today to my Toshiba XF355 40 inch, and I can confirm menus on "1080i Wide" are blurred. I really like this V+, even the SD pic looks good.

Just need more channels.

Aerial bypass won't work - but with 3 tuners you don't need it

'The annoying bars' is the correct way to watch 4:3 programmes.

However if you want to incorrectly watch 4:3 programmes stretched out of proportion, you need to set your box to either 720 Wide or 1080 Wide.

I prefer to watch 4:3 programmes as they were intended so watch with black bars either side. Maybe others will just think me a purist.
