sound on v+ backups??

Hi all, I have recently started having problems backing up my recordings on my v+.
I often copy programmes from my v+ box to Phillips dvd recorder without any problems, until recently. During backing up programmes when I change channel on the v+ on normal channels, the sound from the recently changed channel overides the sound on my back up, for example I was backing up super league to dvd when I changed from mtv dance to uk gold, then when I watched the dvd of super league about ten mins in the sound from uk gold appeared on the disc !?!
Hope this explains the problems I am having and it would be great if anyone could shed some light on this problem.
Thanks

Is your TV connected via a HDMI lead?

The reason I'm asking is I had a problem with sound on backups but I connected TV with Scart again the problem disappears. I don't do that much backing up to DVD so it's not a great hassle.

Re: sound on v+ backups??

Hey dranny69, I've had the same problem quite a few times, you've also got to be careful when watching another recording because the audio feed will sometimes switch to that as well. Here's a thread I posted a while back about the problem http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/10...d-problem.html. I'm afraid there doesn't seem to be a solution to it at the moment. I generally try to limit my activity with the V+ when backing up a recording (i.e. try to avoid changing channel, opening another recording etc.) and just keep an eye on what my DVD player is recording. Hopefully it's just a bug and will get fixed in the next update?

Re: sound on v+ backups??

The best way I've found to do this is to do the copy overnight - all programmes in one go - and leave the V+ on the 'Copying...' screen. Then use the editing facilities on the DVD recorder to separate the programmes into separate recordings.

I've now done it this way for several months, and have never had the sound drop out yet.

The alternative is to hit record on the DVD recorder while you're actually watching the programme playback from the V+, since the VCR socket outputs the recording as it plays. That way, when you spin through the ads, the DVD-R records that too, giving you less to edit out before you archive.

Re: sound on v+ backups??

I'm pretty sure my DVD recorder doesn't allow me to edit footage when recording to DVD-R, so unfortunately whether using the backup function or not, I always have to keep on the ball if I want to pause for the adverts (I use a Panasonic DMR-E50, quite an old model, and can edit recordings on DVD-RAM but seeing as these aren't compatible with most DVD players I tend to use DVD-Rs). However, if the OP's DVD recorder allows editing before finalising then like Paranoimia said, recording over night (or any time when not using the V+ box) would probably be the easiest solution.

Re: sound on v+ backups??

Ah, true... I was, perhaps stupidly, assuming that the OP had a DVD recorder with a hard drive.
