Re: Disappointed After Tv Upgrade

Ive just had V+ installed today and must say I'm very pleased with what ive seen so far, Im using a Toshiba Regza 42" LCD (42XV505) set to 1080i and the picture quality is very impressive on both SD and HD. The only channel that isnt quite so good is Setanta Sports, is anyone else of the same opinion?

And this is why all channels should be in high-def.

Running such incredibly low resolution feeds smeared up to full screen on a decent sized panel is never going to look good. Try playing a blu-ray and be blown away by just how good these large HDTVs are, and then weep at just how dreadful the quality of massively over compressed SD TV broadcasting is.

I have V+ on 1080 wide (sorry, but I prefer 4:3 broadcasts to fill the whole screen, even though people sometimes appear fat, but I know some folks on this forum find this extremely irritating)

Further to the above, a while back I found somebody's recommendations for the 40XF355 on a forum somewhere. It is a good starting point, but I think it makes the picture too dar5k:

Toshiba set up

Active Backlight on
Cinema mode on
3d colour mgt on
Backlight 29
Contrast 88
Brightness 60
Color 46
Tint 0
Sharpness 0
Black stretch off
Stable sound on
Dnr auto
Colour temp warm

Exact scan when using 1080p source
any idea where I could find these setting for the Panasonic LXD70 26" TV?

What was a TV quality picture service seems to have deteriorated into a tier 3 quality offering.

If you are considering the Virgin Service and have anything above a 20" TV then at this stage I would not recommend this platform!

Sorry to hear about your problems, Richard, but it must be a localised problem. The pictures here are superb.
