RF out and HDMI

Just a quick question. When using HDMI does the RF output still work?

Re: RF out and HDMI

Didn't the new software update re-enable it? Or was that just the SCART?

Re: RF out and HDMI

I've been thinking about the tv scart and rf being disabled during HDMI mode and It's blatently not because of any 'upscaling' issues otherwise why can they enable the vcr scart? The reason I think it is that most dvd burners use scart right? if not all of them. If we could have the TV scart enabled during HDMI usage we could record on demand stuff. Simple as really. I mean I know we could technically still do it if you just used SD mode instead of HD, via a scart splitter or using the rf on some sort of recording device but I think it would way more prevalent if the tv scart was enabled. Plus why would they want anyone to use an AV sender when they can make more $ on a second box?

no it's because of H/Def issues - it was causing inferior H/Def picture quality which makes you wonder why they have re-enabled it

i suspect they consider most people won't notice the drop in H/Def quality like they noticed (complained relentelessly about) the lack of scart support & video sender support

Re: RF out and HDMI

The VCR SCART has its own video decoder, which can display SD whilst the main decoder is doing HD. It has no impact on the HD picture quality. There is no way to route the output from the second decoder to the TV SCART socket.

In the days when the TV SCART was active, this was done by downscaling the HD output, but the picture quality on the SCART was hideous.

Re: RF out and HDMI

that's fair enough, the copyright issues for the on demand service just got me thinking about how people could abuse it if the tv scart was enabled

dwindling of H/Def was the reasoning VM gave for bypassing other outputs - can you say why you thought they disabled outputs?

It was definitely due to problems with the quality of downscaled video, not the HD.

Here's the statement from the release when it was turned off:
