Query on V+ Parental control

I'm on the XL TV package as I was looking at what TV on demand there was for my kids and was impressed at the amount of stuff. However on the menu list under kids is a section called 'Movies'. Listed in there are all the Pay per View ones! The default parental control setting allows anyone just to select one of these films with a couple clicks of the remote! I can see them clicking away and running up a quite a bill.

Ok I thought there must be a way to PIN protect any film purchases, while allowing my kids to freely watch all the free On Demand stuff. However it can't be done. You can either restrict ALL purchases and viewing for any rated programmes (this includes U) OR you can allow specific rated programmes to be viewed and purchased

What would be really useful is to be able to PIN protect purchases separately from the parental control settings.

Re: Query on V+ Parental control

AFAIK any chargeable PPV should require the PIN to be entered before it will allow you to order it no matter what parental controls are set up

No the PIN restriction is by Parental control for both watching and purchasing.

The other evening I tested this with the Parental Controls on the default setting of STANDARD. The film Zodiac was on special offer for 1p and I was able to book the film without the need for a PIN.

Re: Query on V+ Parental control

I'm going to get that looked into then. shouldn't happen. ANY chargeable event should be PIN protected

Ok I've checked and yes you are right, sorry, it never used to do that.

I've fed it back as that definately needs to be changed so that the free stuff can be watched but stop the chargeable stuff.

Re: Query on V+ Parental control

If only things moved that quickly lol.

At the moment the PIN by design does only seem to be tied to the Rating rather than cost. Previously (i.e when it was ntl/telewest) this was not the case. I don't know why it was changed

I will feed it back so that it is looked at to be possibly changed it the future. I don't know when that would be though

And who I feed it back to is Virgin

This is not a new problem I have been with Telewest since 2001 and have been complaining about this since then, my step son used to come down and buy premium rate sports events on my box without knowing my pin.

I keep asking them to change it as only adults live in my house so I do not need a pin for age rating programmes just for stopping people purchasing programmes without my knowledge and running up my bill.

OK another 'feature' then! I'll just have to keep my eye open for any Pay per View items booked the the kids.

I'll add this request to caller id on cable phones and digital teletext. Both been 'coming soon' since 2000!
