copying from vbox to vcr
I had some nice painting tutorials recorded from channel 271 and I thought I would store them on my vcr for future viewing.
I have managed to copy previous stuff to vcr from the VBox without porblems but this occassion I have only the sound recorded, no picture/screen active on tv.
Is there a physical block on copying some material to an external device or have I just got some setting wrong?

Re: copying from vbox to vcr
Thanks Hairy Mick, I've checked the leads and they are in OK.
Repeating I can only record sound doing the copying no picture on screen at replay.
My VCR replays other VCR tapes OK (pics. & sound)

Re: copying from vbox to vcr
As a work around one off could you play the recorded programmes on your TV and record them TV to VCR?

Yes OK Jo. I will give that a try later in the week (to make positive that the vcr is operating correctly)

I suggest that if you have successfully recorded these items to your V+ that before you copy them over that you check these are still working, by quickly running through them.
A slight problem I have found is that some items get corrupted when Virgin does upgrades, and you may think that it’s a problem with the actual copying process when in fact the item(s) are already corrupted. I’ve had some shows that will not play and others that have lost the sound part way through, very frustrating especially when it’s “The WIRE” that I was copying onto DVD to take to watch on holiday.
I am assuming that these items have been recorded from standard television and not the on-demand service, if it’s possible to record from this.
Note: my one bugbear is that at the back of the box the cables are set too close together, because I watch all television via HMDI cable and with a Scart plugged in its right next to one another.

Re: copying from vbox to vcr
Thanks above.
My setup is a little inconvenient to get at the back of the Vbox (they are large ) but when I have got a spare period I will have another go at trying to record as previously mentioned. (normal analogue/and v box.)

Simple answer Roy, No the V+ is a effectively its own receiver box with built in hard drive, its not designed as a recorder fortunately there are now many other products ( Pioneer, Panasonic, Sony, etc) out there which will allow you to archive your content. Recording from the V+ is a simple set up, when it’s working.
Suggest you put the satellite receiver in another room.

Re: copying from vbox to vcr
Roy, your Vbox records to harddrive (70 hours plus) and the quality is very high. It should then transmit a signal to a dvd recorder or vcr for long term or additional storage.
Upto now, down in the S.West, my area, reception is perfect and I have not experienced any breakdowns of service.
However I still have not been able to store recorded pictures (only sound) to my vcr (apart from one brief session a couple of weeks ago).
So I am going to contact virginmedia direct re this problem incase the problem lies at their end.

Re: copying from vbox to vcr
Thanks manofdevon I was expecting my Sat receiver to conect to the V Box with a scart the same as I did with the old NTL receiver and then from the NTL receiver to the TV and watch the both through the NTL receiver scart AV1 or AV2,I thought it would all work the same only difference is the HD conection wich I have two on my TV and three scarts thanks again take care best regards Roy.

where have you got the scart going in to stb ,it needs to go in to the bottom
socket of the stb , (and bottom ones on vcr/dvd on mine anyway) that is the way if you are conected by hdmi. But i am having the same trouble as
you trying to archvie . this as just been since the sofware update , a manager i ring me tonight about after doing some sort of national test bettween several regions setting up the same thing all at the same time
even the box manufactures are taking part , as they have proved it is
not at my end, will let you know what the outcome is . i am in the midlands
region (ex telewest)) what region are you in

Re: copying from vbox to vcr
Thanks ufitm, it appears I am not alone.
Still get the sound record tho. So where has the picture gone?
And my connections all worked OK the other week for pics. and sound.
Please let me and us know the outcome.
I'm in Torbay. Devon. the old telewest cable supplier.
