Re: copying from vbox to vcr

OK Spider. I will try that on a portable TV,
(the portable tv is analogue only whereas my virgin set up is digital)
BTW my vcr is an oldie when digital tv had never been thought of, does anyone think that might be an issue?

Re: copying from vbox to vcr

My virgin service engineer still unable to get me any luck archiving to vcr, nor can he get a picture on the the tv (using av1 or av2) through the vcr.

Had a word with ~Sanyo the vcr manufacturer, and he says it is only possible to archive to vcr if watching the program. I think he doesnt understand the new cable vbox setup records programs which are not being viewed at the time of recording..

So can anyone on the forum state that the can archive to a vcr(not dvd) from stored programs on the vbox harddrive?

Re: copying from vbox to vcr

Try this as it does say copy vcr/dvd in the settings on the box
they set mine up again and it works , this is how
hdmi socket from tv to box
av1 from tv to top socket on box
lead from bottom socket on box to bottom socket on dvd and you have to change settings of on the remote to wide screen and the to composite (or rgb if that does notwork) . and you can still watch any cable channels through av1 which you need to switch to before you strart any thing. asked if i could do it on vcr they said yes if i took out the cable from
dvd which was come from set top box and plug it in to bottom socket of
vcr. the only reason there where not a enough scart sockets in my set up.
Hope this works for you.

How are you getting on with your set up. mine went again two days after
they had gone, and i have had to take my dvd in for repair as it gone wrong
(it was ok) until setup was rearranged. phone vm up today, they asked me
if i was trying to archive as shown by the tech, and then they asked me
if i wrote it down how they told and was i changing from hd to sd for archiving , i said yes , she then went and spoke to her manager and
came back and then said it must be your dvd recorder. i just put the phone
down then

Re: copying from vbox to vcr

Hello,

I had the same problem last week-recorded sound and no picture when transferred to video.

To sort it out I had to change the AV channel on the video and plug in another scart lead from the second scart socket on the back of the V+ box to the front input channels on the TV. (One of those with the 3 phono sockets)

It then worked ok,

Hope this helps

Robolots,Thanks for you input.
This lead you state above from the vbox to the front input chanels on the TV, are you saying scart or some other form of lead?

tO UFTM,
Now you mention that your recorder is not working again, I can tell you of my experience.
Some weeks ago I saw that the vbox says it can record to vcr so I did a trial run. It worked.

Perhaps three weeks later I had enough material that I wanted to put to a vcr tape and did a recording. This time and since I have only got sound recordings , no picture.
My vcr still records and works on another TV setup in another room, not on the virgin system.

I am wondering if ~VM have stopped this service?
After all in the past they would not let you record to VCR unless you were watching. I suspect some copyright aggro is at the back of this recording to vcr.

Re: copying from vbox to vcr

It is scart one end and the 3 phono the other (1 picture and 2 sound)

Basically

I have scart from V+ to TV, then second scart from other socket on V+ to AV2 scart on back of video.

Then Scart to phono lead from AV1 on back of video to front inputs on TV

I then set the AV chanel on the video to AV2 and it then recorded fine. It would not work with any other combination or setting ((i.e. V+ scart to AV1 on video)or different AV channel on video).

hope it helps and makes sense

BTW. I assume you are able to view vcr tapes previously recorded/or proprietary without the phono lead?
And the phono lead is only for the vbox transfers?

Re: copying from vbox to vcr

Pleased to report that my vbox now records to a vcr without any problems (for the last 3 weeks). (no special leads only 3 scarts connected)
The virgin media engineer came in and sorted it out but I had to use a new vcr/dvd player (and vcr recorder) I suspect the old recording machine did not have the technology to perform the task.

However my recordings to the vcr machine are only 4/3 and not the wide screen that is available on channel 271 which I have stored to the harddrive, and if recording direct to the vcr its still only 4/3.

But if I do a fast forward or reverse the preview screen is wide 16.9.

How come?
