Re: boring H.D
if you have Sky or Freeview then you could switch to one of them to compare.

Re: boring H.D
Remember that your HD STB will be upscaling SD pictures if you are still watching SD channels via the HDMI lead. For a truer comparison you need to compare the HD channel via HDMI to the SD channel via SCART.

Re: boring H.D
Broadcast HD is wildly overrated. All this nonsense from people who describe it as "looking out of the window" is just that... nonsense. Unless they have a really crappy, pixelated view from their window, that is.
Now, it's certainly better than most SD broadcasts, but just not to the extent that some people claim, because they just forked out £1500 on a new HD set. There's even less of a difference between SD and HD on "HD ready" sets, which only do 720p. You also need to get close to 50" to really notice much of a difference from a normal viewing distance.
Professionally mastered BluRay movies really do make a difference, though, if you have a 1080p capable set.

I don't think you can hold VM accountable for golf being a boring sport

Re: boring H.D
golf isn't the best thing to use imo, an SD picture is more than capable of showing golf without having artifacts as there isn't much to show. on the other hand, say a football match, on SD you'll see artifacts/halos around the players yet on HD you wont

Sorry to hear that you can’t or don’t notice the difference between HD and SD. As I am not a big golf fan so I can’t really say much about that, but suggest you wait for the football and switch between HD & SD suddenly Gary Lineker’s lurid stripy shirts jump out right at you. Also the fans begin to have individual faces and are not so much of a blur. TV picture are bright with sharp colours and no pixilation during fast moving / action scenes.
However, if you still can’t make out the differences then suggest that you book an appointment with Specsavers.

HD on Sky is simply stunning, it is markedly better than Sky SD and is like "looking out of the window" especially when watching the football.
I don't know what V+ is like by comparison but if its as you describe i'd be very disappointed too.
When i see posts like this i do wonder what your PQ is like as there is no contest on Sky, a tenner a month extra for HD is more than worth it in my book, it really is impressive.

Re: boring H.D
I was disappointed too with the golf picture quality. With more static and slower changing things in focus I was expecting things to be razor sharp. Sadly there weren't although there was a sharp decline in the vast number of artifacts on screen on BBC1 on the golf. The whites of the bunkers etc looked a lot better too. Then again I watched I'd do anything for a few mins on BBC1/BBC HD out of interest and the picture quality on both was shockingly poor. With the FA Cup picture quality on BBC HD the other week I'm wondering whether they've been downgrading it quite a lot .

Re: boring H.D
I really notice the difference with HD. I am fed up with only BBC on the Virgin platform. Seriously considering moving to SKY. And that means phone and broadband too. Someone tell me why i shouldn't?

No reason at all why you shouldn't move if that's what you want from your TV. VM aren't delivering the HD content you want, why should you stay?

If you're not bothered about VOD then fair enough. By the end of this month Sky HD will have 15 "proper" linear HD channels (does not include luxe or box office). If virgin get ITV HD, C4 HD, Nat Geo, History and Discovery as has supposedly being speculated/promised by the end of this year I'll be happy as I think 6 channels for free plus vod is fair enough.

Re: boring H.D
I got a cheap HD DVD player and lots of cheap films, so that does me for any extra HD content at the moment.
