Should V+ Box go into standby after it's been powered on?

I'm just wondering if this is normal behaviour. I switch the V+ Box on at the mains, I get the "your box is powering up" screen, then my V+ Box goes into standby. Then I have to switch it on using the V+ remote.

I'm wondering if there's any way I can get it to switch on to a TV channel after its been powered up instead of going into standby?

Any help appreciated.

Paul

Doesn't it go back to the state when the mains was switched off?

So if it was in standby when the mains goes off - then it will go into standby when powered back on.

If it was powered on it would go back to the channel it was on when the mains plug was pulled.

Thanks for your very helpful reply, you're absolutely right - the V+ box goes back to the state it was in when it was switched off (just tested it).

So, is there any harm in switching off the V+ Box when it's displaying a channel so I can view that channel again on power on? I always switch the V+ Box to standby before power off as I always assumed it was safer to switch it off in this state.

Why are you powering it off at the mains?

There shouldn't be a problem doing this, but as with any hard drive if it is recording at the time you cut the power (it will be buffering the TV in case you hit pause or rewind) it can cause problems with the hard drive.

I like to switch my V+ Box off at night along with all the electronics (Amp, HTPC, Wii, TV) conected to the same power outlet. It's not really my idea but the owner of the house's and as I am only renting, I do as I'm told

Thanks for the reply, That's why I'm a bit weary of switching it off while a channels on, because of the buffering to the hard-drive. I think I'll just carry on putting the V+ into standby before power off. It only takes about 2 secs to switch it on again at the remote - I guess I'm just getting lazy

We turn our v+ off at the mains a few nights a week to save electricity,

I switch them both off every night if I'm not recording, for the same reason.

Re: Should V+ Box go into standby after it's been powered on?

I have a fault on my V+ box as it is not managing the planned recordings correct - VM said that this is normally done overnight.

You may find that switching off overnight could cause problems in the future.
