A Expiriment with HD Footie

Today - I just conducted an experiment as the footie kicked of in HD today - switched between the BBC 1 broadcast & the BBC HD transmission. The difference is quite noticable. I have a 4 year old pioneer 43" plasma (one of the 1st with an hdmi slot) and never really new how good the TV is until I got a v+ box. Just one complaint - no digital surround sound on the footie - that would just complete the experience.

The footie is what HD was invented for - Anyone have any comment?

I thought it looked great, it wasn't till I watched the 2nd half on SD TV that I really started to notice the difference. I do wish we had more sport in HD, I noticed the Masters is on BBC HD next week, but I hope that we can realistically look forward to ITV, FIVE, Setanta and C4 HD channels and the free sport that would bring.

Shame the game wasn't upto the same standard!

The BBC-HD picture for the FA semi was very poor compared to their normal live HD standard.

Re: A Expiriment with HD Footie

Sadly I've had little experience of High Def sports. I've seen a few matches on Sky Sports 1 in standard (shot in HD) and was impressed by the standard, likewise with some of the cricket. I'm not a rugby fan but watched about 10 mins of some of the matches on BBC HD and BBC1 out of interest on a mates Sky HD box. BBC1 was shockingly poor and rugby on BBC HD was a vast improvement.

Yesterday's match picture-wise was disappointing. The picture was not crisp, a few extra details were visible like the stripes on WBA shirts and the crowd looked better but disappointing. TBH the picture on SS1 SD Barnsley v Cardiff looks better .
