Does changing SD to HD affect recording "time left"?

Hello all,

Ever since I got it, about a year ago, my V+ box has shown typically 70 to 80 hours free for new recordings (obviously fluctuating depending on how much I had recorded).

Today I noticed this had dropped to 23, but I haven't recorded a load more programmes which would explain this. I have power re-cycled the box, no difference.

However, what I *did* do recently is change from using the SCART connection to using the HDMI connection. I've read on these boards that HD recordings are four times bigger than SD. So one explanation of the shorter time free could be that it is now recording everything in HD rather than SD.

Can anyone confirm that this is how it works?

Thanks in advance

I think it will only use up more disk space if you acrually record a program on the BBC HD channel

Non-HD channels will be reocrded as usual and then upscaled

Thanks for the rapid response.

So does the "time left" calculation assume that you are going to record it all in HD? That's the best explanation I can think of for where my missing hours have gone.

The only other explanation I can think of is that the box has got it's file system mixed up and has a whole load of space on the disk which isn't showing up as available. Presumably the solution for this would be reformatting the disk, which I would rather not do if I can help it.

Mine is set to HD and I can confirm that your hours remaining only jumps by 4x the normal when you have recorded something on an HD channel the rest take up the normal and upscale.

Sound like a disk reformat to me!!!!
