Slingbox

I have just bought a slingbox as I thought the latest code drop enabled SCART out while connected through HDMI but I have tried both scart sockets and my slingbox doesn't receive any video in. Do I have to do something to enable the SCART out? OR have I misunderstood completely?

Thanks

Re: Slingbox

Have you tried disabling HDMI, and just using scarts?

Re: Slingbox

Yeah, but doing what Hom3r suggested above would enable you to work out whether it's a problem with the Slingbox itself or the video output of your V+ box.

Confuscious,

I have been using the old Slingbox Media (not the Pro or Solo) for over 18 months; when I initially tried to connect to the V+, via SCART, it knocked out my HDMI, which is my primary source of television pictures. I take it you are using the Slingbox Pro which has HDMI input.

I had to call out an engineer to resolve the problem because (I have the silver V+ box) it cannot handle both HDMI & SCART simultaneously. Apparently, “in theory”, the V+ should be able to handle both but HDMIs don’t ping (as I was informed by the engineer).

In theory it should be the lower SCART cable, that you connect not the top, but I use to archive material to my Pioneer 940 DVR and then connect the Sling Box to Pioneer to access material (archived and not on the V+).

However, one minor thing is that because of the way my Pioneer TV is set up whenever I access the material, via Slingbox it switches on the TV, (and you don’t want a plasma or LCD burning whilst your overseas) if it is not on already it turns the TV over because the SCART pings that its being accessed. This is a bit of a problem as there is still only one HMDI output on a V+ box. Although, I have asked about this and not received an answer I believe the problem is in the way the HDMI functions and not really the V+ box.

Don’t know if this helps for thought I may as well add to the pile.

To note: One thing you should be aware using a Slingbox is that despite what broadband set up you have at home, the picture quality is dependant on whatever internet access you can obtain overseas, (HDMI requires a lot of band width) so unless you are travelling to South Korea, where mega download speeds are the norm, I wouldn’t be too fussed about expecting a high resolution picture on your laptop.

Re: Slingbox

Hi

I have exactly the setup you mention, HDMI output to the TV and a Slingbox Solo plugged into the second (lower) SCART socket of the V+. All works fine except there is no EPG to the seconds SCART so none shown on the Slingbox.

The second SCART should be on all the time with HDMI on so unless there is something wrong with your V+, it can only be the Slingbox is not setup quite right.

The obvious thing to check is that the input of your Slingbox is correct - mine has three choices (Component, S-Video and Composite) which you choose through the software, if you have the Pro I'm not sure what others their might be. For me, composite is the one.

I suppose that it might be worth setting the V+ to SCART, getting it all setup and then switching back to HDMI on the V+, just in case it's something weird in the setup of the Virgin box or software. That's intially how I did mine, and until the new code drop, I had to manually switch the output of the V+ to SCART when we went away and wanted to use the Slingbox.

Re: Slingbox

I tried that, then tried plugging in a TV ariel (which I know works) to the slingbox (original not pro or solo) and it still says no input detected - think I might have a faulty one. i'll have to get on to support i think.

Thanks for your help.
