DVD Home Cinema System and V+ =problem

I have a sony dvd home cinema system connected upto my TV via a scart connection, I have my V+ box connected to my TV via a HDMI connection. I use to be able to change the input on the home cinema system from DVD to TV and the speakers would omit the sound from what was being displayed on the TV, ever since i have had my V+ box installed i can't get any sound through the speakers, had tried fiddling with the setting on TV, Home Cinema system and V+ without any joy.

Has anyone else suffered from this problem and can help me? or shall i put in a request form with the mrs to buy seperates?

Re: DVD Home Cinema System and V+ =problem

If your surround system has an optical in for an external source the V+ can send the sound to that.

I have my surround amp connected this way.

When virgin installed a new V+ box they just added a scart withe two AV outputs wired in worked fine on my surround sound amp but on further inspection ,when he had gone , i had a look around the back and found an optical output so used that instead and binned a load of cables at the same time

The problem is this:

When you had your old cable box connected to your TV it would have been by scart. The sound would travel up the scart lead to the TV and then the TV would pass that sound back down the other scart to your DVD/Home Cinema kit. You DVD/Home Cinema would output the sound via its speakers when your input was set to TV.

Now that your V+ is connected to your TV via HDMI your TV will no longer pass that audio back down that scart to the DVD/Home Cinema. This is a normal feature of HDMI.

What you will have to do is get a set of phono leads and connect them from the V+ box to the DVD/Home Cinema. You would the select the LINE option on the DVD/Home cinema instead of the TV option.

Phono leads are dirt cheap and i bet you can get a set on ebay of a quid or you could get these from maplins ..... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...=1020&doy=18m3

If your amp has a optical input you would use that instead of the phono leads but i doubt it has. Most of the all in one sony systems only have the phono input.

hope this helps.

Re: DVD Home Cinema System and V+ =problem

Thanks very much for your help, I knew it must have been due to the removal of the scart and the introduction of the HDMI cable, the trouble with my home cinema system (DAV-DZ100) is that it dosn't have any other type of connection other than 1 single scart, no other input or output stuff on the back at all.

Can i connect it to the V+ box with a scart then on the v+ box connect it to the AV2 on the TV and listen that way?

Re: DVD Home Cinema System and V+ =problem

I think the only option is to use this lead

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...29903&doy=19m3

Connect the scart to the TV and AMP and the two phone breakout cables to the audio outs on the V+ box. Set the switch to audio in and it should (in theory) work.
