Recording from V+ to video (Archiving)

I'm trying to archive for the first time from my V+ box to video. The first time I just got an hour of ITV which I worked out was due to the video being set to that channel, so I changed the channel to AV1 hit record and retried, this time I get sound but no picture could this be a scart cable issue or am I selecting the wrong channel set on video (I'm guessing its AV1).

Any help appreciated

Re: Recording from V+ to video (Archiving)

Take a look at the socket on your video recorder into which you've plugged the SCART from the V+ box.

It will say above or below it "AV1" or "AV2" or suchlike (alternatively the manual should say what the SCART input is called).

Once you know which SCART sockets are in use and you select the correct AV input on the recorder, if you record only the sound from the V+, but not the picture, then first thing is to check the SCARTs are plugged in fully (they have a tendency to wiggle loose).

If that doesn't get it, try another SCART cable.

Let us know how you get on.

A quick addition to higgsfield's sound advise is make sure you have the scart cable plugged into the lower of the 2 sockets on your V+.

Re: Recording from V+ to video (Archiving)

Tried suggestions last night, all cables tightly fitted and seem to be in the right place.

This is my cable set up:-

TV
AV1 scart to top socket of V+ box
AV2 scart to AV2 VCR socket

V+
Top socket to AV1 on TV
Bottom socket to AV1 on VCR

Video
AV2 to AV" on TV
AV1 to V+ bottom socket

When coping I still get a blank almost white screen with just the sound I just cannot seem to get a picture so I can record from my V+ to video.

Anyone else got any ideas what could be the problem here ??????

Make sure that the video is set to accept Compsite video on that scart (you may have to look up in the manual how to do this).

Re: Recording from V+ to video (Archiving)

Off topic a bit but I have an unusual situation with archiving. Tried to archive a program last week. Went into recorded programs started the program running and switched over to the recorder. Blank screen was all I got. Tried all connections as it had worked previously. Eventually remembered that with hdmi the scart is off and should have gone into V+ extras. Wife said it was a senior moment. Anyhow the feed was now through the scart and I recorded the program. Last night decided to archive a movie I had recorded at Christmas. Switched to DVD recorder to set its input at scart and I was able to watch the program currently on. Changed channel to make sure. I appear to be able to get a feed out of the scart at the same time as hdmi but last week I couldnt. I thought this was not supposed to be possible. Not going to complain about it but wondered if anyone else had a similar 'benefit'

Wink Re: Recording from V+ to video (Archiving)

Finally got the copy facility to work last night.

It WAS a cable issue, I'd checked my video manual for the installation set up and the scart from the V_ needed to go in my AV2 decoder port not the AV1 socket, I also removed the scart from the V+ to the TV as this just seemed redundant with having my HDMI cable in place.

Tried copying a program to video and hey presto it worked so now looking forward to archiving programs across. My mother in Law will be delighted she can now watch the programs she asked me to record for her.

Re: Recording from V+ to video (Archiving)

Yes I was extremely happy last night at seeing the recording on my video.

I cannot believe I have not had my V+ sooner, do you know when it first came out, I didn't think it had been that long ?

Re: Recording from V+ to video (Archiving)

Hi, does anybody know if you can archive by connecting a laptop or similar and connecting to software like PowerDirector and then record onto DVD?? Not much point transferring to video as don't really have anywhere else to play them and we don't have a DVD recorder at the moment! heers
