Thinking on ordering V+
Hey Guys,
We are thinking of ordering V+, I rang VM sales earlier and they confirmed we could get top everything for £65 a month - which is saving us just short of £15 a month - not much I know - but it helps. I was wondering, if anybody could give me advice / experiences with the V+ service in general - I understand it comes with HDMI & HD as Standard, whats does it support, my tv can handle both 1080i & p
Thank you

Re: Thinking on ordering V+
The V+ supports up to 1080i
Personally speaking, I wouldn't be without my V+ now. It's transformed the way I watch TV, rarely watching anything totally live, even if only delayed by a few minutes so I skip though ads and stuff. I did have a hard disk recorder but it was just too fiddly to use with a separate cable STB so I ended up missing everything.

Hmm I got Sky + at the moment but I think £75 is reasonable for HD + Recording. But Sky's £200 isn't reasonable..

Re: Thinking on ordering V+
At the moment only BBC HD is available as a HD channel, plus some stuff in VOD. Everything else is SD, albeit that the box can upscale the output if you are using an HDMI type connection.

Re: Thinking on ordering V+
I'm fairly new to V+ and it's already changed the way I watch TV, I just wished I got the box a lot earlier instead of paying out for a hard drive recorder (which is now redundant).
The HD doesn't bother me too much, but though I do wished they had more content, but the extras on the V+ makes up for it.

Yes but no but.
If the picture is transmitted in SD, you can't actually make it HD as the information isn't there. Upscaling tries to electronically guess the stuff that might be missing so that your TV can work at a higher resolution. Most of the time the picture will look sharper and more detailed due to this electrotrickery, but sometimes it can look worse i.e very grainy.

Re: Thinking on ordering V+
I agree with Rob - totally changed our viewing habits! Wouldn't be without it now.
It's a bit slow changing channels but apparently that's because it has to set up the hard drive to continuously record the channel you're watching so you can stop/rewind it.
I've set ours up with a 10 minute buffer after the recordings to avoid missing the end of programs (missed one or two with just 5 minutes added).
Ours was noisy at first but after putting felt pads under the front feet it's completely silent now.
Sure you'll love it.

Re: Thinking on ordering V+
The software on our V+ Box has been updated this very evening and gets rid of the problems mentioned by Chorlton above.
Channel changing is quicker and it now warns you about recording clashes rather than just failing to record them.
Picture is great on our 32" through HDMI at 720P.
Series Link is a fantastic device.
You can also watch movies in HD On Demand and the difference is definitely noticeable.
You won't regret getting it.

What do you mean, eight years behind?
We got our V+ two months ago, how can I be eight years behind?
And Series Link Recording is a fantastic device.

Re: Thinking on ordering V+
I have had my V+ for 3 weeks now and have no regrets. The SD picture is much better through the HDMI cable, sharper and more vivid, trust me it is better i have spent many hours in front of the TV fiddling (no jokes). The HD stuff is just exellent, I watched the rugby last saturday on BBC HD and i was blown away by how good it looked, its just a shame that we don't get all the channels SKY get, saying that there is still some good stuff on demand.

Talking about the Tivo again, yes the Tivo is a good device aprt from the fact the only way to record 2 things and watch a third would be to get 3 STB together in a row. Had a PC based PVR which I ditched because of this reason.

Re: Thinking on ordering V+
Hi
Go for it !!!!
I've had V+ since Dec 07 and would recommend it to anybody, delayed tv, record 2 progs at once whilst you watch third - no other provider can beat that.
Also now latest patch is out most gliches are resolved, never mind lack of HD content that will come in time, also the way the picture is enhansed through the HD cable its preety damn good now.
Hope you can still get the £75.00 deal but if not still worth it.
regards
billc

Re: Thinking on ordering V+
I subscribed recently and think it is great.
For the price, it really is worth it.
I couldn't live without it now.
Shame there isn't more HD. That's the only real gripe.
