connecting to my tv
Hi guys.
I have had my V+ box now for about a month and on the whole I am very pleased with it apart from the constant buzz which I seem to have at a mimimum now.
My question which I hope you can help with is this....
My tv is a JVC 26A61, which when I bought it 18 months ago claimed that it was HD ready, when I connect the cable from my V+ box and try to change the settings, V+ is telling me that it can't detect a HD tv. Does anybody have any idea's
Cosmic.

Re: connecting to my tv
Are you using a HDMI cable, or SCART?
Just googled the spec, and it states 2 x SCART - you need a HDMI connection for HD.

Re: connecting to my tv
Hi Foreverwar. Thank you for your very prompt reply.
Yes I am connected by scart and also via a dvi to hdmi cable. as the tv only has a dvi socket.

Re: connecting to my tv
Here is a link to the V+ HD setup guide linky which states (if you have followed this process previously, sorry)
There are 3 types of HD leads: HDMI, DVI or Component, depending on which TV you've got. Have a look at your new TV manual and it'll tell you which cable you need. You can pick one up easily in your nearest electrical shop.
Once you've got the correct lead, follow these instructions to get connected:- Switch off your V+ Box and TV at the mains socket.
- Connect the V+ Box to your TV using your new HD lead. Please also leave your scart lead connected. Switch on the V+ Box and the TV and use your TV remote to tune to the relevant AV Channel for scart connection (for now). Wait for your box to start up.
- Once the box displays the words 'Live TV' on the front panel press Home on your remote control.
- Choose Settings from the menu and Select the Change Display & Audio Settings option
- Select TV display format
- If you've got an HDMI or DVI lead, select HiDef HDMI. If you've got a Component lead, select HiDef Component.
- Then select the V+ Box HiDef output setting. We show our HD programmes in 1080i but display quality varies according to television manufacturer so you may find your TV looks better in 720p so try both. Select the wide settings to view widescreen programmes.
(Once you have completed set-up you might like to try these steps with each setting in turn to see which looks best on your TV.)
- Once you have completed adjusting your settings, press OK to save. A pop-up screen will appear so that you can test your set-up. Press OK to start the test. The screen will now go blank.
- Next, your TV will require setting to HiDef input (please use your TV remote and refer to your TV Manufacturer user manual for instructions on how to do this).
- Once you have set your TV to receive HiDef input , you should now see another pop-up screen stating "Press Text to confirm your high definition settings are correct". If you can see the Pop-up message then Press the Text button on your Virgin Media remote to save the new setting. This popup will only remain on the screen for 30 seconds before the V+ will return to the previous settings.
If you can't see a picture, change your TV settings back to scart input as before and the V+ will go back to the old settings automatically.(Once you have completed set-up you might like to try these steps with each setting in turn to see which looks best on your TV.)
If you don't see the picture it could be because:- The cables are in the wrong sockets, aren't in properly, or are faulty.
- The TV doesn't support the selected mode, needs its settings changing to make it support it, or is faulty - see point 9 above
- Or it could be an incompatibility between the TV and V+

Hello again Foreverwar.
I have tried again using the above instructions. No luck
I will get hold of another cable, but before I do I will contact JVC on Monday and ask them if there are any problems that they are aware of when connecting a V+ box.

Re: connecting to my tv
As far as the noise from the V+ box is concerned, I solved my problem with a couple of felt pads under the front feet.
