Thinking of cancelling if i can...

I had V+ installed in early January and to be honest i really do like the service.

However, there is a problem with the volume.

On all channels, it is too quiet. Until the adverts come on and them its loud.

Prior to having this fitted, i had a Samsung ST2110 box and it gave a consistent volume.

I have a Samsung surround sound system (HT X30) which is plugged into the optical out on the Samsung telly. The only difference is that i am now connecting to the telly using HDMi rather than Scart.

I'm fed up with having to max out the volume on my surround sound just to obtain a decent listening level.

Can i cancel or am i contracted for a further ten months? thinking of going to Sky but keeping virgin telco and broadband...

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

a) you appear to be out of the 30 days notice period, so your contract stands
b) you may not have to cancel - some of the kind people on this forum may have a solution to your problem

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

Thanks, i thought i wouldn't be able to back out now but wasn't sure.

In terms of the volume problem, i have read lots of different forums where people complain about the v+ box volume but it appears there is no fix for this.

Having three kids under five doesn't help being able to hear the telly but most of the time it is just too quiet, even at max volume on the surround sound. Then it will boom out as the adverts come on

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

I take it your v+ sound goes through you surround sound?? Have you tried plugging the V+ Box direct into the telly and trying the sound then.. sounds like something *could* be causing this in the surround..

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

Doesn't the V+ box have a menu option for volume in it's settings somewhere? Could it be that this is simply set too low?

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

I think that an option to change the base volume level on V+ is one of the new features coming in the next code drop when it arrives.

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

The V+ remote will change the volume on the STB by default, you have to tune it to control your TV's volume.

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

The V+ box dooes seem to have a problem with adverts being louder than the standard volume of the shows between them, but I have only noticed this on one channel, Paramount comedy.

I'll test this on the box in my bedroom, its one of those stumply Samsung boxes, 2100c I think?

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

I set the remote to change the TV volume using a code.

Stupidly, i should have realised the tv was set to mute its own speakers as i am using surround sound.

How do i code it back so it returns to default? i guess there is a chance that i can then change the v+ box volume..?..

Steve, 0683 is the reset code for the black v+ remote, AFAIK it will not work on the silver remote.

Re: Thinking of cancelling if i can...

Thanks Michael, i have now reverted back to the remote controlling the v+ box for volume.

Can i change the volume base setting somewhere in the menus?

You certainly can if you have the new code in your V+.
It's in Home then 8 then 4.
