HDMI "Undefined" (V+ Box HiDef Output)

I have Pioneer 508xd, and HD doesn't look very impressive, despite VM engineers confirming box setup is correct; box is connected to TV via HDMI cable (and via BOSE Lifestyle).
In the V+ "Change Display and Audio Settings" menu, I have set TV Display Format to 'HiDef HDMI'. Below that is the V+Box HiDef output selection - but the only option displayed is 'Undefined'. In other words, I cannot select 720p etc.
There is nothing in the Pioneer manual that might give a clue to what may be wrong.
Any Pioneer / VM geniuses out there that may have encountered this apparent problem?

Re: HDMI "Undefined" (V+ Box HiDef Output)

Now that's pretty odd. I can see 2 scenarios:

1) There's something fruity about the EDID table in your TV. This is an internal 'list' of what modes the display supports over HDMI. Something in this list is causing V+ to get very confused. Maybe a firmware upgrade for the TV may help.

2) Your V+ is goosed. Even when I had no HD display connected, those options were still there. Get them to swap the box.

Out of interest, what signal does the TV report it is receiving?

Re: HDMI "Undefined" (V+ Box HiDef Output)

Thanks, Shadow TD. Shortly after posting the query, I reviewed all the equipment once again. Strangely (to answer your question), the HDMI Input on the TV was showing "576" when the V+ was first switched on each day. I re-looked at the Bose Lifestyle (which controls all the kit) and, buried in the Settings menu, was the option to change to 720i or 1080i. Quite why the Bose installer - or myself, had not spotted this earlier is a mystery. But, one learns all the time.........
Thanks again for responding

Ahh. Righto. So you weren't actually getting a HD picture. Does BBC HD look any shinier now?

Re: HDMI "Undefined" (V+ Box HiDef Output)

Yes, thank you, HD is now A1.
Interestingly, though, V+ is still showing the Output as "Undefined" (in the Settings menu), even though the Pioneer definitely says it is now driving out 720 (or even 1080, if requested). Strange, that.........

Re: HDMI "Undefined" (V+ Box HiDef Output)

Indeed it is. I'd wager that if you connected it directly to the TV, it would be fine.

Hey ho. Glad it's sorted! You could always rep me...
