Foreign imported recorder

Does anyone know if Virgin refuses to register imported cable PVRs?

Re: Foreign imported recorder

You can only use VM supplied equipment on the VM network, what ever you connect after the VM supplies STB or Modem is up to you, but you cannot hook up a non VM supplied STB to their network.

Re: Foreign imported recorder

Thanks for your replies. OK... I am not a cable customer yet. I am moving somewhere where there is cable.

From what you are saying, I hook up the Virgin provided set top box, then I can hook up my imported cable PVR onto the Cable out port? Is that correct?

That means I can only record the channels which are free?

How many cable STB can you daisy chain together?

No it doesn't work like that, the VM supplied STB doesn't have a 'cable out' port only analogue SCART outputs or digital hdmi in the case of the V+ which is a PVR in it's own right.

The best you could do would be to hook something like a Tivo or media centre PC upto the analogue outputs and record that way.

There are no 'free' channels as such, you would need a subscription from Vm to get any channels at all.

Re: Foreign imported recorder

OK thanks. I understand I will be subscribing to VM. I was just wondering how all the people I know who have Virgin cable use the Dreambox they import from Germany.

Since the V+ is a rebadged Scientific Atlanta 8300 I was wondering if I could import one from America. Obviously it isn't as easy as that.

Thanks again.
