New V+ box user
Hi there,
I had a V+ box installed no more then a week ago, before which our tv service was the best service we got from Virgin. Since having the V+ box we get random blocking of the picture and sound drop outs. They only last for a sec or two but after awhile it gets annoying. The problem affects live tv and recordings and affects the following channels (that we're aware of):
Boomerang
Boomerang +1
Living tv
Animal planet
Discovery science
UKTV style
UKTV food
Smash hits
Magic
We had a engineer out today, he couldn't see a problem as it don't do it all the time, but he replaced the box and card and lowered the signal down abit (They were abit high he said). But the first thing we record on Animal planet and its blocking/sound cut outs in places again.
Anyone know whats wrong, as i say, before V+ we had a perfect working tv service for nearing 2 years.
Thanks
Ninko

Re: New V+ box user
We have never had any problems with our V+ box like that. If its doing it on both boxes and he has changed the signal level then i cant think of what else it could be

Re: New V+ box user
I had exactly the same problem and was told that they are aware of the problem and are going to issue a fix 'when they get round to it' (Althouh I do hear it may be quite soon).
In the mean time I was told 'to put up with it'.
The only thing you can practically do is keep on at customer services / tech support until they sort it out.

Re: New V+ box user
Hi Jefferson T,
Any idea what the problem actually is then, because no ones told us anything like that so far?
Are there any channels that it affects most for you, as it does with us (the list i gave above), or is it all of them for you? I haven't noticed any problems on the bbc and itv channels myself.
Take care

Re: New V+ box user
The next software release (due end Feb is the latest I've spotted on posts here, check other threads for further details) has a fix for recordings, not sure about live though. I would wait and see what this update does for you although it is long overdue apparently.

Re: New V+ box user
I don't know what the problem is, but I had it for more than 12 months before I got rid of the v+ box earlier this month.
I'd mainly have the problem on discovery and channel 4 type channels (ch4 - e4 and the like)
BBC and ITV were ok tho.

Re: New V+ box user
I just can't understand why it only seems to be on certain channels.

It only affects channels that have been through one particular type of broadcast equipment at the headend, and it only happens when the V+ is using the third tuner.
As JT says, it will be fixed by a V+ software update shortly.

Re: New V+ box user
Must be a slightly different problem then, because as far as i'm aware of it, it affects live tv aswell as the 2 recording tuners on ours.

Re: New V+ box user
The tuners are effectively used at random. They don't have a fixed purpose.

Re: New V+ box user
Is there any way to tell which tuner is being used for live and specific recordings?

Not usually. If you get audio dropouts, it's using tuner 3

How do you know that? I mean, if it's not possible to tell which tuner is being used for which activity...

Re: New V+ box user
This gets noticed in our house because t'bird watches E! and we've both started to watch E4 since Reaper started. Fingers crossed for a fix!
